Beautiful, unique and very well made
I ordered this looking for a unique, but attractive knife block. I am a very picky person, and I tend to notice things, even the littlest details others might overlook. With that, my opinion of the Artelegno Beech Wood Magnetic Knife Block (Large with Natural With Black Accents) is that it's beautiful and very well built and I would purchase it over again. The block is solid and very sturdy, and the finish is smooth and even. The magnets are slightly recessed so you do not have to worry that they'll damage or scratch your knives either. The block has some heft to it as well which is probably enough to keep the block from moving as you grab a knife, although it also has rubber pads. The pads elevate it slightly, ensuring it won't trap water beneath it and guaranteeing the block won't unexpectedly slide. The magnets are probably a little too strong, as it does take more effort than I'd like to remove a knife, but you won't have to worry about a knife falling out either. The panels are close enough that you'll need to zig-zag the way you store your knives, otherwise, the handles will be too close to comfortably grab. At first, I was bothered by this, but I found that I prefer the zig-zag look as it gives a slightly more stylish look overall.Although I have a few criticisms, I do not regret purchasing this and I would buy it again if I had the chance. In hopes that the manufacturer reads this, here are the few things I would change.1) Use thin strip magnets instead of circular magnets. The circular magnets make it impossible to hold more than one knife in each slot, and they tend to pull the knife to the center of the slot. This disrupts myzig-zag pattern, which does mildly irritate my OCD.2) No place to hold cooking shears, honing steel, or a ceramic sharpening rod.3) The center (black accent) piece that holds the panels together is a little thicker than I'd like. It may cause larger knives (stored in the middle panels) to hang over the side edge slightly. This is not an issue with the top panel, so this may not be an issue for most people. As I said, these criticisms would not prevent me from buying this again, although I think it would make a great product excellent.

The Answers to Your How Many Knives/How Large a Knife Questions
Review of this: Artelegno Magnetic Knife Block Solid Beech Wood 5 Panel, Luxurious Italian Venezia Collection by Master Craftsmen Displays up to 14 High-End Knives Elegantly, Eco-friendly, Natural FinishBeautifully made product. In the description it says it will hold 14 knives, and you're not going to fudge that into holding any more, even if you have several smaller ones. That is, the magnetic strips that hold knives are just that: Narrow strips that hold one knife each along the length of the knife, not across the boards that make up the holder. Even though the longest three pieces of wood look like they are wide enough to hold more knives, they only have magnetic strips to hold two knives each--where you don't see knives in my images is because there are no magnets there to hold knives. Plus there are four strips on the two shorter pieces, making 14 total knives. The block does not hold my meat fork at all--not enough metal against the wood for it to grip. It does hold the knife sharpener okay. Check out the images for the maximum number of knives it can hold (short of just shoving a knife without a magnetic hold into an open space, of course). The magnets are strong and shouldn't have any problem holding even a meat cleaver, if that's your knife of choice. Beautifully made product, and from Italy; NOT FROM CHINA!! :-)EDIT: The image showing the knife dimension is more difficult to read after Amazon resized than I realized. It says 10-/18".

Fantastic Knife Block
This is a wonderful knife block. Beautiful and functional. I use it for knives as well as kitchen scissors. It is extremely well made and looks great in my kitchen. It will hold 9 knives (2 on each of the top 3 "shelves" and 3 on the bottom one). It fits under my cabinets even with several longer knives. It won't hold more since there aren't any more magnets. You also can't see the magnets since they are inside the wood. They are quite strong and there is no way to dislodge the knives without grabbing them, but they also come out quite easily. Unlike other knife blocks it should be easy to clean.I give this 5 stars because I am very happy with my purchase. I may buy a few more as gifts for friends. You will not be disaappointed.

I think it's a design statement but needs just the right spot in your kitchen.
I really love this design and appreciate it's modern style to hold my Henkels 4 star set of knives. The magnets are very strong and could hold a clever easily. This is a high quality, well made product which I have only one issue to inform the buyer about. This beautifully designed work of art needs a happy place to showcase it. In my case, as you can see in the picture - I have average counter space and to make it work I keep it against the wall when not in use and it actually looks very cool. When I'm ready to cook, though I pull it out catty cornered to show it off and everyone's like, 'what's that thing?' And when your friends say that - that's when you know it was all worth it to buy this beautiful beach wood magnetic knife holder made in Italy. They all want one now. LOL
