Navali Mainstay Waxed Canvas & Leather Messenger Bag (Olive Canvas)

I've now lived with this bag for nearly five months, and it's been my daily commuting bag. Overall, it's a good bag that gets dinged when it comes to some of the smaller details.First, the load: this regularly holds my 13" MacBook Pro, along with a 27-oz. water bottle, power brick, assorted cords, and a myriad of tiny things like hand cream, ibuprofen, etc. (Yep! It's like a purse. Happy to admit that.) It's also just large enough to carry a glass container or frozen meal for a lunch. Space-wise, this bag pretty much nails it. There are an adequate number of compartments, including several zippable, throughout.The overall color of the bag is a rather drab olive. The wax level of the canvas is rather low; this won't show marks and scuffs like other canvas bags I've had do, and that's really a shame. It won't build much character that way. It doesn't feel cheap, but it also doesn't exude high quality to me. The bag also has no strong structure, so occasionally, getting my MBP back into the bag can be a chore.On the downside, there are a few quibbles. I have no idea what's happening with the shoulder pad. It's not in a location I could ever physically use, and it's a waste. Second, one of the interior zipper pulls has come completely off. Third, the exterior side pockets are useless to me (except maybe for a pack of gum? I guess?)The worst parts, though, are the magnet snaps used to close the main flap. These things are INCREDIBLY PICKY. Timbuk2's large Velcro straps are, in contrast, a relief: just close the thing and you're done. Here, I need to pause and work to get the snaps closed, every single time. It's annoying, too, because the front flap is so very long that I must secure it. Definitely one of those day-to-day things that I've come to truly dislike about the bag.That all said, this is really a 3.5 star review. I like the bag quite a bit, but don't out and out love it. I would also add that I don't feel it's worth over $100, at least not to me; the quality isn't at that price point. It's good for $50-$60, great for less than that.

I love love love how this bag looks. I'm a 30something mom, small business owner, and I've carried a briefcase in some form for 20 years. This has the perfect amount of secure (but not annoyingly secure) pockets and zippered sections, and is tough enough to show no wear after nearly a year of use. The pockets and individual sections are seriously great. However, the small metal clip (you can see it in the picture) tends to snag on sleeves - it's like the metal clamps aren't tight enough. I actually sent this feedback to the manufacturer, and they replied immediately, and are sending a new strap to me.

I like this bag. But there were too many things about it that forced me to return. For one, the leather pad on the strap came off when I got it, no wear or anything. Also, the magnetic enclosures were a pain to line up (wish it was a more secure enclosing system as well). Lastly, the bag, while nicely sized, was just a little too small for my needs, it could fit my 13" Macbook Pro perfectly as well as a couple books, but fitting the macbook charger and water bottle was not possible at this point.I will say I loved the canvas material and leather bottom. But due to the downsides of the bag, I'll be going with something else.

I bought this bag because I needed a nicer looking one for the office that would hold up with my commuting. Overall it's a nice bag that I have been happy with. I am routinely carrying my laptop and papers in it in the rain and have not had any problems with things getting wet. The only downside is the strap is a bit loose and I constantly have to adjust it when it slips down. Still a great purchase.

It slips back into its original position a few minutes after adjustment, which is pretty annoying. I would not recommend this for students because it holds a less than ideal amount of stuff before bulging out and becoming difficult to close. After using it for about 5 months, I can honestly say that for a student, a backpack would be a much smarter choice. However, if you must must must have this, know that it can barely squeeze in a 13 inch laptop..

LOVE LOVE LOVE the bag--just wish the shoulder-strap pad went over the metal clasp--I reduced the strap to its shortest length, and the pad now just sits at the end of the strap and not on the top/middle portion.

I wrote a pretty extensive review about the leather version of this bag. The fact that this bag is the same price as it's leather counterpart is ridiculous. It is a well made canvas bag material-wise, but it is totally limited in design. It has no padding, so it's not shock resistant. The strap is constantly coming loose. Most of the pockets are too small to fit anything significant. I would say this is a $50 - $60 bag at best. The fact that it is selling for three times that is ludicrous.

I bought this as a birthday gift for my husband. His briefcase was so old and worn. I thought that this would be hip and so much more appealing to the eye. He loves it and the fact that the waxed canvas is waterproof is a plus. He knows his things won't get ruined and is protected.

Diese Umhängetasche begleitet mich nun seit eine Weile auf meinen beruflichen Reisen (Flug, Bahn, PKW, Fahrrad).Diese Tasche ist seit langem endlich DIE Laptop Tasche mit der ich sehr zufrieden bin.Das Surface Book lässt sich gut unterbringen und durch 2 mit Druckknöpfen versehenen Verschlusslaschen vor dem rausrutschen sichern.Die Tasche hat insgesamt 11 Fächer zum Unterbringen von Mappen, Ladegerät etc. Davon befinden sich 2 Kleine an den beiden äußeren Seiten (Platz für Brille, Packung Tempotaschentücher etc.), 3 kleine Innenfächer geeignet zum Unterbringen von PC-Maus und/oder USB-Kabel sowie kleine Festplatte etc., 3 Reißverschluss Fächer (RV-Öffnung 2 x 25cm, 1 x 30cm), 3 Fächer mit einer Einschuböffnung von mindestens 33 cm.Als beruflich vorbelasteter Qualitätskontrolleur im Bereich der Fertigung von genähten, textilen Produkten ist es bei mir schon Normalität ein erworbenes Produkt gründlich auf Qualitätsmängel zu untersuchen.Trotz genauester Kontrolle konnte ich keine Verarbeitungsmängel finden. Und was die Funktionalität anbelangt... für meine Bedürfnisse sehr gut.Das Preis/Qualitätsverhältnis ist sehr gut, die Tasche ist absolut zu empfehlen.

Ich war mir bei der Bestellung der Tasche noch nicht ganz sicher, ob mir das Material und die Farbe gefallen würden, da ich bisher eine Ledertasche hatte. Allerdings bin ich jetzt wirklich begeistert.Aussehen und Verarbeitung:Die Tasche wirkt ein wenig dunkler und etwas gräulicher als auf dem Produktbild, was ich aber sehr schön finde. Der Boden der Tasche besteht außen aus dunklem, sehr schönen Leder, welches auch dafür sorgt, dass die Tasche aufrecht stehen bleibt (gleichmäßige Beladung natürlich vorausgesetzt). Die Verarbeitung ist tadellos. Es gibt keine rausstehenden Fäden oder schlechte Nähte. Das Material an sich wirkt sehr wertig und stabil. Im Inneren ist die Tasche deutlich heller, aber genauso stabil wie außen.Fächer und Praxis:Zunächst einmal: in die Tasche geht nicht nur ein Laptop, sondern noch eine Menge anderer Sachen. Trinken, allerlei Kleinkram, ein DIN-A4-Block ... sind kein Problem. Der Laptop sollte für das Laptopfach am besten nicht größer als 13 Zoll sein, sonst muss der Laptop in das Hauptfach.Zu den Fächern:- 2 kleine Fächer befinden sich außen an den Seiten- 1 Fach mit Reißverschluss ist auf der Rückseite- Innen sind 2 Reißverschlussfächer, 1 offenes Fach für z.B. einen Block, 3 kleine Fächer für Kleinkram, 1 Schlüsselring, 1 Laptopfach und natürlich das große Hauptfach.Die Lasche der Tasche wird mir 2 kleinen Magneten geschlossen gehalten, allerdings bleibt die Lasche auch ohne Kontakt geschlossen.Fazit:Eine sehr schöne, super verarbeitete Tasche mit viel Stauraum, welche nicht nur als Laptoptasche verwendet werden kann.

It's a nice bag - very well made, with high quality materials. However, I'm not too keen on the design of the front flap, which hangs down beyond the bottom of the front of the bag, even with the magnetic buttons snapped in place. This is particularly a problem when the bag isn't very full. Unfortunately this started to annoy me so much that I stopped using the bag after about two weeks.

Habe mir diese Umhängetasche für die Uni gekauft und ich bin rundum zufrieden.Die Optik ist durch das Segeltuch zusammen mit dem Leder wirklich einmalig.Ist mal was anderes.Auch im Innenraum ist alles qualitativ hochwertig verarbeitet und sieht ansprechend aus.Die Nähte und Reißverschlüsse sind gut verarbeitet und man hat genügend Stauraum für jegliche Schul-/ Unisachen.Isgesamt wirklich eine schöne Tasche!

Etwas schwache Magnetköpfe, ansonsten ohne Beschwerden.Der Gurt ist ausreichend lang und kann vernünftig angepasst werden. Der Schulterschoner sorgt für Tragekomfort.Gute Aufteilung der Taschen lässt keine Wünsche offen, eine DinA4-Mappe passt wunderbar hinein. Auch für weitere Gegenstände ist mehr als genug Platz. Soweit auch keine kaputten Nähte oder ähnliche Mängel feststellbar, allerdings sind auch erst 4 Wochen vergangen.Keine Farbveränderungen wie zwei andere Bewertungen beschrieben.
