Works well with included driver but find your own software
This cable does exactly what I needed it to do. I was able to communicate with my car using INPA, EDIABAS, and NCSexpert. My suggestion is to do what I did: find the software you need elsewhere online and only use the included disc to grab the drivers for the USB to serial chip. Doing so will allow you to avoid whatever "virus" warnings that may be triggered by the software on the disc. The drivers included on the disc that came with the package are digitally signed FT232 drivers, not drivers from an unknown source. If you have to rely on the included disc for the software you need to make use of this cable, you probably should not be tinkering with you car using this cable. BMW software is not for the faint of heart and I strongly suggest taking a few weeks to research what you're getting into on multiple forums and read about how to use the software and where to get it.My setup process was as follows: I connected the cable to my laptop and when prompted for a driver, inserted the disc and navigated to the drivers located on it. After a successful driver installation, I installed INPA, WinKFP, EDIABAS, and NCSexpert, which I sourced from other places online (NOT the included disc). I went into the device manager and configured the new serial port to use COM 1 as its identifier. From here, I connected the cable to my car, opened INPA, and was able to read and write to the car easily. Note: I am using an older Dell laptop with 32 bit Windows XP service pack 3 and had no issues with software or driver installation. For what it's worth, I received a cable with a white PCB, not a green PCB. Cable construction feels fine (I'm not a professional shop so I don't plan on gauging this cable's ability to stand up to daily use and abuse) and I expect it to last for what I'm using it for. Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

It works, BUT avoid the included CD.
This cable worked perfectly for me once I was able to properly install INPA on my laptop. Not much else to say for a cable, either it works properly or it does not. This one does. And that *could* be the end of this review. However, the package came with more than just a cable. There is an included CD that has some BMW diagnostic software on it. Bonus, right? Wrong. The CD also seemed to include some malware, so I set it aside. *IF* you need to get INPA or some other BMW diagnostic or coding software, simply lookup "Mike's Easy BMW Tools" and look for places where you can safely download those files.I'm not deducting stars for the cable, since that's what I wanted and it worked well for me. However, please be aware that some of the included software is not safe.

DONT CODE WITH THIS
Do NOT use to code, if you do be ready for it to screw things up. Works decent for diagnostics, that's all.

Use the include disc as art, or to fend off zombies.
First off, the disc is worthless. Some versions of Win may have the appropriate driver already installed. If not, just google them. All i needed this for was check some vestigial codes, and to ensure my transmission fluid was the proper temperature during a service. It worked for clearing codes and showing the temperature values in INPA, and a bunch of firmware levels, so that's well worth the 28$.There's no need to spend a fortune on Carly or some other expensive OBD tool when this works just fine. For the uninitiated, sourcing and installing INPA can be a challenge, but if you can follow directions to the letter, you'll get it installed. As another user said, be mindful of the switch on OBD port side of the dongle. If you have it in the proper position, you'll have a green light in INPA.

Fixed my IFH-0009 error
I had an airbag light come on after replacing a rear window regulator without disconnecting the battery. Try as I might, I could not get my old K+DCAN cable to communicate with the airbag module. I kept getting an IFH-0009, no communication error. Interesting thing is that it could communicate with the engine and transmission modules just fine. The internet said this was sometimes an issue with the way pins 7 and 8 were connected. I tried bridging pins 7 and 8 but no dice.I ordered this cable and it didn't work at first regardless of what position the switch was in-- still the same IFH-0009 error. I then deleted my old install of the BMW software including the USB port drivers. I reinstalled everything from the disc provided. Tried again and success. It read out all the modules and was able to make the airbag light turn off.The documentation is lacking but eventually everything worked out.

Works as advertised. INPA help in review.
The cable works great. For anyone struggling to figure out how to get inpa and all of its files downloaded, google “Mikes Easy BMW tools” and click the first link that pops up and just follow his instructions and download link. It downloads literally everything for you, and the files are only 170mb instead of many wasting many gbs, also has NO viruses. It took me less than 10 minutes to get it set up thanks to this download link. Figured I’d make it easier for the next person. :)
