Do you have to remove the camera cover lense to put the camera in this housing?

Nope, it fits right in out of the box. But I will say get some of the anti-fog inserts before using this. I didn’t know I needed them and all of my snorkeling footage is entirely ruined as a result..

How sturdy is the lock/latch? I had another housing and the latch was junk-attached by 2 thin metal 'fingers'.

latch is similar to original case, but with locking release lever to prevent from accidentally opening. real sturdy.

how deep can this case go under water?

It is rated for 45 meters depth. But I would not take it quite that far.
