How well it works depends entirely on your attic opening
I looked at this and the other attic cover which is made of flexible material. Both are pretty pricey however this cover was significantly cheaper and has a much higher R value. If your attic opening is completely flat and there are no obstructions to prevent the Draftcap from sitting squarely on the opening this will work great. In my attic there is a wooden floorboard 1" away from the opening that is 1/2" higher than the attic opening. This prevents the draftcap from sitting squarely on the opening.I ended up putting the cap slightly to one side so the cap was sitting right next to the floorboard. Unfortunately this causes a gap to appear on one of the sides.Looking at the maker's website they suggest putting weatherstripping along the bottom of the cover and weighing it down for a tighter seal for uneven surfaces. I decided to weatherstrip the opening of my attic instead because of the stupid floorboard in the way. I put a bag of insulation on top of the draftcap to weigh it down.Works ok but somewhat disappointed from having to MacGyver the product.Edit: After using it for 3 years I decided I was a bit harsh on my original review and bumped it up a star.

Nice product
I have no attic floor and my framing is a little rough so I have no "flat" surface. Assembly was easy. Ship time was good. Quality of product is excellent. If you want to get access to the attic pick it up and move to the side - no problem. As a quick fix I put down long strips of 6" insulation around the perimeter so the cap would sit on the insulation. I needed something to make up for the "rough" opening around the stair in my attic for the cap to sit on. I have no floor for the cap to sit on and even if I put plywood down the rafters the floor would be uneven because the heights of the rafters differ.I'm going to have to figure a fix so the cap will have something flat to sit on. The bottom line is the cap sitting on the insulation is doing its job for now I can tell because there is no draft or almost no draft around the closed attic stair door. This spring I will make it better.

A Real Energy Saver
This simple design is a fantastic way to save energy and money. We have our attic door right above the upstairs thermostat and the heat coming from the poor seal on the attic door caused that upstairs unit to run and run. This simple fix has helped reduce the amount of time that upstairs unit runs, even on the hottest days. It also pushes completely out of the way when moving large items in and out of the attic, which is a real plus compared to similar products on the market. A wonderful find...every house should have one!

Beware of the Measurements
This product is composed of two parts (as though cut in half) that simply abut together to form the image shown; the parts do not slide into one another and there is no overlap. The product is made of styrofoam (the material used to make soda coolers for use at the beach, but is of much higher quality and quite thick (3 inches or so)). Critically, there is absolutely no possibility of adjusting the size of the product. If your attic access entryway is too long, the product will leave a gap in the middle between the two halves, defeating the purpose of the insulation. If your access entryway is too wide, the product will not fit at all and cannot be made to fit. The foam is rigid and cannot be "stretched" at all without cracking or shattering. These properties make the length and width of your access entryway critical. The instructions say that the product will "surely" fit if the "opening" -- "the plywood door or panel (not the molding) is in the vicinity of 24" x 52" However this is not true; the access cannot be made to fit anything much wider than 24". I followed the seller's instructions and measured the "opening" of my attic entryway, however, my attic entryway is framed with 2x6s which add 2 inches to each side of the opening. So although my opening was 24" wide, the product did not fit at all. The seller was great in allowing me to return the product, however, the product is large and bulky and the cost of shipping it back to the seller by UPS was nearly equal to the purchase price! I would have given it just one star for the poor measurement instructions and for the seller's failure to disclose that it is not capable of being adjusted at all, however, I gave it a second star because the product is of high quality rigid foam and might be useful for those with an attic entryway that is exactly the right size (-- and also because of the seller's cooperation in accepting the return).

Easy Install, Insulates Well
I really liked the ease of install as the weight of the cap holds it over the hole. Going up into the attic just requires you to slide it off the hole. The cap can cover a fairly large hole, but make sure you measure it before ordering. The styrofoam material and the air underneath the cap make for good insulation vs. the cloth attic covers. Assembly was easy to do as far as gluing the two pieces of stryofoam together and taping the seam. I did use additional thermal tape (not provided) to completely close the seam on both the inside and outside of the cap.

One of best purchases I ever made!
OK, I was skeptical but when I put it in the attic, I could felt no more hot air--instantly. I thought, "Hhmmmmm, maybe this will work." We had several hot days and I was feeling heat from the attic fan ( bought a cover for that ) but it was cool where the Draft Cap had been installed. The only negative thing I can say is I didn't like the duct tape that came with it; it was flimsy if duct tape can be cheap (it curled when I pulled it off the paper). However, I had some tape like HVAC people use and I used that. BUT this is a minor problem compared to how easy installation is and how the product does what it says it will do. My brother-in-law, who is in heating and cooling, predicts it will pay for itself in the first year. This skeptical consumer is one happy cool camper :)Thanks!
