Nice quality, makes the job quick and easy
Pros:Quality item: well made and finished, looks nice, sturdyBuilt-in drain plate, saves messFull instructions, in multiple languages, for use, care and assemblyNo plastic and springs look sturdyDecent size compared to cheaper, plastic optionsCons:Still only holds one block of tofuDrain plate is shallow, gets very fullHard to know how much to tighten when first usingIs made of untreated bamboo, so cannot go in dishwasher and needs to be oiledNot sure if screws or springs might start to rust over time, if you wash it assembledThe cons are not major to me, and mostly apply to all tofu presses or the oiling to all wooden kitchen items. And this seemed to be one of larger offerings, but I would like it if it was wide enough to hold two 400 g blocks side by side, as it is long enough. But then it would also take up more space. But the drain plate should be deeper – centre part inside the lip is 6.5 mm deep. The tofu is not standing in the liquid, but the tray gets quite full. Photo showing the liquid was taken halfway through. But instructions say to re-tighten every 5 minutes for 30 minutes, so you can empty the tray at the same time. if necessary. It was easy, if a bit fiddly, to assemble. Instructions come with good images, and it's clear how to put it together. On first use, I was unsure how much to tighten it at the start, and continued until the first seepage appeared, but afterwards realised that was likely not enough. Btw, I wrapped my first block in kitchen roll, but realised you don't need to do that. And this looks even nicer after oiling, photos were taken before. It seems sturdy - I accidentally dropped mine, from a good height on a hard concrete floor, but it was undamaged. Results are not necessarily better than with a weighted board, but it's quicker, easier and less messy. My first press was not done after 30 minutes, but likely due to not tightening it enough, and it was done after 45 minutes. Second one was quicker.Overall, this seems a good option and a worthwhile purchase for a regular tofu eater – and if you don't press your tofu, that might be why you don't like it!

A nice looking piece of kit
I have serious health issues at present, so I am adding to my diet various foods that scientific studies have shown to have properties that enable them to assist the body’s healing process. Dr. William Li, founder of the Angiogenesis Foundation, has YouTube videos in which he reveals many of the findings. There’s a lot of fascinating information being discovered by these studies, which are ongoing.Fermented soy products – miso, tofu, and so on – are on the list.I’m not a vegetarian, so tofu is not something I’ve felt drawn to very often. I have had it from Chinese takeaways, where it is usually served in a chilli sauce or some other sauce, to give it some flavour. On its own, tofu has no flavour at all. A fermented soy product I do use, is miso paste, which is one of the ingredients in the vegetable stock I make regularly. The recipe I use is from the Glen & Friends channel on YouTube, if you want to try it.So, let’s try tofu. A search online revealed that tofu can be fried, until has a crispy crust on either side. That sounds like my style. Okay. What to serve it with? Mediterranean is my style, so maybe Ajvar would work. This is a specialty of southeastern Europe – Macedonia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey. It consists of roast peppers and aubergines mashed up into a pulp, and is used as a relish. A shop specialising in Mediterranean foods, not far from where I live, sells it. My favourite place to shop!First, the tofu. You need a tofu press, to press out the liquid from it, before frying. Hence my purchase. It is a nice looking piece of kit, my main motivation for choosing it.Assembly came with few problems. The instructions are simply and clearly explained, with helpful illustrations. One problem involved one of the plastic nuts, which had to be removed initially from one of the bolts. It got stuck, near the top. Luckily, I had a pair of pliers handy, which I used to get a firm grip on the bottom end of the bolt, so the plastic nut at the top end could be turned the rest of the way.Pushing the top plate on, so that the bolts pass through the holes provided in the top plate proved tricky, as they didn’t line up at first. You have to push the bolts firmly inward, toward each other, to get the top plate on. We shall see in practice if this affects the performance of the product when I use it.Finally, maintenance. The recommendation is to rub food-grade mineral oil into the wood regularly. The mineral oil I use is Deer & Oak brand, which I purchased for use on a chopping board I purchased from the same company. (See my review.)First trial:The initial pressing takes time. You are meant to press it down as far as it will go each time, at five minute intervals, then leave it for another 20 – 30 minutes. The slab of tofu I used was two centimetres thick, so I cut it lengthways into two one centimetre slices. Fried it (in ghee) on one side on high heat, then flipped it over and turned the heat down to the lowest setting so it could cook internally and not just on the surface. Quickly done. Topped with ajvar relish, dried grated garlic, oregano and parmesan cheese. Lovely.

Disappointed - The seller is great!
Such a beautiful product and works well. After using it twice, the bottom tray developed cracks 😩. I'm new to the tofu scene and was so excited for this product...back to the cast iron frying pan for pressing...The seller contacted me and offered a replacement without my having to go through the hassle of returning the broken item...am looking forward to trying again!!!

Reliable tofu press which doesn’t topple over
I’m impressed by the convenience of this tofu press. No more mentally preparing myself to dig out 5 litre bottle of water as a makeshift press and trying to balance it on tofu without it falling over, only to be rewarded by half pressed tofu after several hours. This press takes 15-20 mins to press efficiently and seconds to clean. I was looking for a wooden press rather than plastic and this one caught my eye. Maybe bit expensive but if it lasts my lifetime then it’s worth the money. I was a bit put out to realise I had to set up the press springs and bolts myself after spending £30 on it however it was foolproof to do and I managed it without any difficulty. If you prepare tofu regularly and don’t fancy another plastic gadget in your kitchen, then I reckon this is worth purchasing.

Set up
Set up was impaired by the fact that one of the holes on the top piece hadn’t been drilled right through making it impossible to put the bolt in. Luckily I have a drill and was able to fix this. I could have returned it but this seemed easier and quicker for me. Just something to be aware of although it was probably a one off. Otherwise a lovely product that works well!

Spaccata in due al primo utilizzo.
Al primo utilizzo (purtroppo era già passato il tempo limite per una eventuale restituzione), si è letteralmente spaccata in due.
