How to get an incredible edge using this stone
I have a small surgical grade black Arkansas stone that can actually put an edge on a scalpel, but it is a bit small to hold in your hand while honing a final edge on your tools. This stone is perfect for that purpose. I learned that you normally go through the sharpening process to get the best edge possible, then as a final step, use this stone with some mineral spirits on it to take "sharp" to a whole new level. You will be amazed at the edge you get if you follow this process. The grits I use to approach the final honing are 1000, 4000, and finally 8000 water stones, then I hold this in my hand and find both front edge and back shoulder (of a hollow ground tool), and lightly hone the final edge. If it is a flat piece (like a plane iron or bench chisel) I also will hit the back side to remove any possible burr by laying it flat on the back. WOW, amazing edge! If sharpening a knife, I would still use mineral spirits but lay it on a block of wood or similar for safety's sake.

Product is as good as advertised.
This was a quality stone. I am satisfied with its quality. The stone surface feels smooth as glass. I also am happy it came with a leather case to protect its surface. I just wish I bought a bigger one.

I wanted to love this stone
This little rock comes in a classy leather pouch and is just what I needed for a travel stone. It comes from a now-closed mine from the land of ancient blacksmiths, swordsmen, and rare steels that drew blood in battle. There is a lot to think about when selecting a stone from a place with such storied craft. After finishing a razor to a mirror polish on a King #6000, I took my new, freshly lapped stone and attempted to apply its magic to the razor my face so desperately needed. After a few minutes of working my US made, 100 year-old razor, the edge was hazy with fine scratches. I have a 2 pound incredibly fine natural stone back home that I use after my #6000 and it puts an amazing shine on the blade before I take it to #20000 then #50000 strops. In this case, the Ocean Blue stone is acting more like a #4000 stone and leaves me a bit lost for having spent $35 on something that isn't really useful in the role I purchased it for. It even took the polish off my EDC pocket knife (154CM).I'll keep it but only because it I can use it after a #3000 stone but I am still going to find a better traveling companion.

Great for final honing of straight razors.
Rare natural stone. Most people that use this item have straight razors. Using a regular knife it may be overkill, but for a good straight, you use this before the strop and after honing. A bigger one is better, as it’s easier to stroke, but with a little bit of work, this is just as good. It’s just better because it saves time. Do not use this with dull knives or razors. It is specifically for the sharpness that is for popping hairs when shaving. I’d you use this for a kitchen knife, you are a very particular chef that shaved meat Goodfellas thin. It’s really for straight razor owners who don’t want to spend a fortune on a larger one.
