Firma Melodiya continues to acquaint music lovers with the work of the outstanding contemporary pianist Grigory Sokolov. A pianist of a broad creative range, he has had classical, romantic and modern music in his repertoire. However, he is better known as an interpreter of Johann Sebastian Bachs works. Grigory Sokolov is perhaps the only Russian pianist who lives up to the comparison with Glenn Gould in terms of performance of Bachs music, combining intellectual depth and rational, constructive mastery with extreme emotional expression. This LP features recordings of Partita No. 2 in C minor and English Suite No. 2 in A minor made at Sokolovs recitals in 1982 and 1988.
