Whirlaway 291 1/2 Horsepower Garbage Disposer with Power Cord, Blue

I purchased this model to replace the old one of the same model number which finally wore out after 15 years. I got the one with the power cord already attached to make installation faster and easier. The directions helped me to understand how to remove the old disposal while leaving the sink flange in place. The dishwasher and drain pipes fit exactly in the same place on the new disposer! Everything fit together perfectly with no leaks! My husband was recovering from a back injury and I was able to do this on my own.

I bought this one 291 w/PC instead of 291, thinking that there is an attached power cord. So I was surprised that the power cord (with three color wires at one end) is actually a separate part in the box and you have to make the power connections yourself. You will have buy a strain relief connector and then connect the three wires using wire nuts. I decided not to return the unit because I needed to replace the bad one right away. I wish the product description would make it clear that the power cord is provided but not attached.Other than the missing power cord strain relief connector, the package came with everything that you will need. In my case I did not replace the sink flange because it was secured attached and hard to get off. This was the first time for me to replacfe a garbage disposal, so I read the instructions carefully before I started. For a semi-handy person like me, it took about 1.5 hours, including removing the old unit, and at times I needed a second person to help me hold the unit while I tried to loosen or tighten the mounting ring. If I had to replace the sink flange, it would have taken another half hour to scrape off the old plumber's putty and put in the new one.

This is perfect the replacement for 20 year old identical unit, but his one is much quieter than the old one. No need to change any plumbing, so happy to find this model was still available. PERFECT purchase. Quick delivery.

Although the device is noisy it operates as the manufacture describes however the device's plastic sink collar, the assembly which holds the device under the sink, creates a dam that prevents water from draining completely from the sink and eventually will create a water stain in the sink. The advice to potential buyers of garbage disposals is to seek a device the seats better into the sink's drain opening perhaps one which the sink collar is made of metal.

I replaced my old whirlaway with this one exactly the same, easy install since I didn't need to adjust/change any mounts or brackets. The first one lasted about 10 years or so. Its not the most amazing disposal but its reliable and works well for veg and things of that nature. Also its small so easily fits under the sink. Took off a star mainly because there are better one out there not because there is anything wrong with this one.

I use these in 8 rentals and my own home. All buildings came with the less powerful, but otherwise identical 191 model. They began to fail after about 17 years in service and I just replaced the last one, which was 22 years old. I expect the same from the Whirlaway 291.

My old Whirlaway ceased to work so I purchased this one with more horsepower. Fairly easy to install since the dimensions were the same as the previous disposal.

Turns out the Whirlaway disposal was easy to install. No problem at all. The DIY removal and install probably saved us $300 in plumber fees.The new disposal is also extremely quick and quiet. My first Whirlaway lasted 18 years. Great product.
