One of the best things I've seen in years (and they have been around forever)
Got back into climbing for my sons. We use trees since there are not a ton of cliff faces in Florida.Easy to get them off the games now. But, when you are on a static line and find yourself (for whatever reason) dropping like a rock, you know that you have at least a foot or two to decelerate before the jerk. One of my kids (young man) was rappelling with a "decender" ( the of the most popular ones). And was a bit to easy on the belay and to strong on the lever. I should have spent more time with him waist level before I let him go up. Needless to say the drop was split second and the catch was not pretty. He's lucky (and very flexible) and didn't get hurt.So now everybody has a KONG and is leaning their custom size rope and wraps to slow them before the jerk. It is basically a resettable screamer. It can be a pain to reset if you are loaded on it. But to have a screamer that can be reset is very nice. Get a bite, tie off, clip on, work your loops open on the Kong and pull more line. So not only is it resettable, but it is very adjustable for your weight and length of deceleration. Just don't forget the stopper knot!

It works????
This turned out to be quite a weird product. My son wanted to put together a via ferrata kit, but didn't want to use sewn slings as he thought if he falls one time then he has no protection after that .So we bought this thinking we could use a length of old climbing rope. However upon testing it, it seems incredibly sensitive to the rope diameter. A little thicker than they recommend and it doesn't run through at all. A little thinner than they recommend and it seems to run too easily.I couldn't find any tables or instructions that show different rope diameters and how many times to thread it through the device, so I actually felt a little unsafe using it .There's not really any way to test it in a big dynamic fall either. If you're just sitting on it with your body weight it doesn't slide through. If you jump 2 ft in the air and just flop on it it'll slide for 6 in to a foot. But how much does it run through when you fall 15 ft onto it???So whilst I think it will work and it definitely seems to absorb the shock when you do fall on it, I have no way of telling if it's going to save my life or not so actually I'm a little uncertain about it.I guess use at your own risk, and test different rope sizes to make sure you at least feel comfortable.

This is a great device for climbing above your anchor when solo climbing ...
This is a great device for climbing above your anchor when solo climbing and using a "Silent Partner" Clove Hitch locking device (made by Rock Exotica) to soften your fall, decelerate so as not to rip your spinal cord. The instructions are here: http://www.kong.it/doc407.htm . I use 10.2mm which works just great. I've fallen many times on it and you just pull the rope back and and keep on using it I also have a Yates shorty screamer attached so if the KN is over 2KN (550lbs) the screamer will activate. However I've never had more than half my own weight 80lbs (0.35kn) as the Kisa will feed through at that plus I have a safety Yates shorty screamer which activates at 2kn just in case I have a big fall and it pulls all the way through, not that has happened even falling 15ft from my last anchor.

specialty product
This is a specialty product, so this review doesn't cover anything about whether it's suitable for your uses. However, as a piece of rock gear, it appears well made and well finished.

Holds pretty well. Perhaps with a stiffer rope it would work as designed.
I don't understand why the product states that it is not to be used for more than one fall. If it stops you from having shock loads over 4 G's, it really ought not be stressed when you fall on it. I bought it to be a reusable "screamer" for via ferrata hikes. So far I have not tested this with a kernmantle climbing rope. I tried it with a 1/2" solid braid nylon rope. Running the rope through all the holes in the plate would BARELY support my weight (220 lbs) To generate more than one "G" of friction, I needed to run the rope through a hole at the bottom, then around the outside of the plate, then through some holes, back around the outside and through the remaining holes. With the two extra turns, the rope holds pretty well. Perhaps with a stiffer rope, or a smaller climber, it would hold while rigged as shown in the diagram on the plate.Test it with your rope, dry and wet, to see how it would hold your weight. The finish is smooth. The device is light. It is smaller than I figured it was. It's closer to 4" tall, than the 5" listed in the product description. I'd have more faith in the product if the manufacturer had not stated that it was rated for a single fall. I don't retire a carabiner or rope after a single fall. This appears as sturdy as other Kong gear. Perhaps I'll need to test one to failure.

Will save many lives and necks
Shock absorbers are essential, make no mistake. The Kisa is properly priced at around $11, for me because I want one for each ladder and a few for the 4 fall anchors per side.It is more than 25 kn tough and can easily reduce the fall force to a safe level.I do not recommend using the higher number of holes unless you test it out, because a wet or dirty rope, rope with high friction, a mantel that milks, tight turn radius, temperature, can dramatically shorten the slide and impact. This is especially important for a half harness.I learned the physics formula to calculate force at any height and weight. I learned the safe forces according to osha, the nominal force and stopping distance falling 2 meters and no fall protection. Once I figured out the mockup factors, I was able to drop a 40 lb bucket of water, 2.4 meters drop. After testing the slide on various threading, wet/dry/dirty, tight, loose, 10.5mm rope, I calculated the lower hole recommedation was safe, but going to be too violent. I decided on a longer stopping distance, which will be around 60 inches for a 220 lb person on the less friction falls.

Via ferreta
I used this to create a vie ferreta y lanyard. This issues with many via ferreta vita it that they’re single use only…… and so the question is what do you use incase you fall again??This Kong Kisa shock absorber allows you to reset your device and use it multiple times in a row.

Via Ferrata Kit that last (almost) forever
Together with Kong Connection Aluminium Tango Black, I built my own Via Ferrata Kit very easily. And it can be "recharged" after a fall without being forced to have a backup kit the the Rucksack. Please note that the number of maximum falls allowed depends on the technical data of the rope used.

Buon Prodotto. Inizialmente lo montavo male
ATTENZIONE - Se montato male ti ammazzi! - Buon prodotto.
