Collateral Damage: The Mysterious Deaths of Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy Kilgallen, and the Ties that Bind Them to Robert Kennedy and the JFK Assassination

Why Trash Trump?
Didn't see the point of inserting a psychoanalysis of Donald Trump in this book. Still trying to figure out what he had to do with the deaths of Monroe, the Kennedys, or Kilgallen. The skipping around from subject to subject makes this book somewhat hard to follow, and the pictures are so small one needs a magnifying glass to see them. Not finished with this behemoth of a book, and I will do my utmost to finish it, but I won't read anything by this author again.

Leftist Claptrap and Buy Bait
An almost unreadable patch work of rampant speculation whose author must not be familiar with forensic work done since 1970 on the JFK assassination. This combined with gratuitous anti-Trump anachronistic interruptions in the narrative are troubling. Was this written to make the leftist author money or to gain admission to Georgetown cocktail parties or both? Inquiring minds want to know. If you wish to be even more confused concerning these murders, read this book. If you have two days you want to waste, read this book. Otherwise, stay away. Amazon should refund any moneys paid for this garbage.

Conspiracy
This book is a major investigation behind the scenes of the deaths of JFK, Marilyn Monroe, and Dorothy Kilgallen. The author seems to be doing a credible and thorough job until he gratuitously and erroneously blames Donald J. Trump for the disturbances at the Capitol on Jan. 6, of this year, a current event. For him to make such an egregious mistake on current history casts a major shadow of doubt on the rest of his narrative of events that happened years ago. I cannot recommend reading this book that purports to divulge the truth about historical events but that may prove to booke pure fiction.

Rose Colored Glasses
I can’t say that I minded the Trump rants in this book as much as others did/do but if you’re going to use examples similar to JFK on the abuse of women while being president, where is your mention of Bill Clinton (and Hillary)? This author repeatedly repeats (YES) himself and clearly only sees virtue to the left. I wasted a few hours reading this beast of a book and am none the better for it.

Needed fact checking.
Someone should have fact checked this book. Party for Kathleen Kennedy in the 50’s? She died in a plane crash in 1948. Picture of Ms Killgallen and Marlene Dietrich ? Actually picture of Gloria Swanson. I’m only 1/3 of the way thru the book and found these two glaring discrepancies. Tabloid stories have more credibility.

Worth Having, Worth Reading, Worth Gifting
If you like to connect the dots of a infamous crime - here's your chance. If you like to follow celebrities or politics or both - here's your chance. If you like to know more about history - here's your chance. If you believe in justice - here is something you do not want to miss. It is rare to find a book on the topic of JFK, Monroe or Kilgallen that, not only is thoroughly researched and verified, but one where the author is getting passed all the gossip and false imagery Hollywood and politics can dish out while painting the real picture of who these people really were. It was not written for fame or for money, but in the hopes that a country that tarnished its soul in the coverup of these murders may heal from the damage that has been left covered up for years on end.

This is real journalism, folks!
As a retired journalist myself, I'm jealous. Mark Shaw's dogged determination and honest sense of caring have once again turned out a most extraordinary examination of the deaths of three American icons. This is journalism at a first-rate, frankly Pulitzer Prize-winning pay grade. Shaw leverages an uncommonly wide range of skills as journalist, researcher, author, former defense attorney and dogged detective obsessed with shining a light on the truth. As a result, Collateral Damage is chockablock with sometimes almost niggling details -- but I say that with utmost respect and appreciation. The deep research, the use of multiple primary sources, the wonderful addition of numerous internet links all conspire to make the book so valuable. Not to mention just a crazy good read.Collateral Damage is destined to be the go-to reference book for the most detailed account yet of what its author convincingly contends were three murders with overarching parallels among them. Shaw is not a man who pulls punches either. He makes a slew of bold statements, especially when it comes to the Kennedys -- Joe, John, and Bobby (Shaw calls them predators). And assertions like this: "Some likelihood exists that the manner by which Marilyn died triggers the belief that her murder could have been a dress rehearsal for how Kilgallen may have been killed."Likewise, Shaw leaves no doubt that, in his view all three luminaries' dastardly deaths were mob-related. And, he says, all three autopsies were seriously mishandled.I knew writing this review would be difficult. There's so much information packed into this genuine page-turner by a gifted writer and unbelievably tenacious researcher. His thanks to the Holy Spirit in the Epilogue is as surprising as it is refreshing.Somebody stop me! I could write nearly as long a critique as the book itself. Mercifully, I haven't.

Top notched investigative author delivers another masterpiece.
I have followed all of Mark Shaw's Kennedy/Kilgallen/Monroe books with great interest. Mark is really on to something with these series of books. Collateral Damage is fantastic and should be a part of everyone's collection. The first book I bought from him was The Reporter Who Knew Too Much and I had honestly never heard of Dorothy Kilgallen outside of an old Mysteries and Scandals episode. By the end of that book I was convinced she had been taken out. I am not a conspiracy believer by nature but there are too many threads that come together to not have been something other than a lonely overdose. This latest book Collateral Damage follows up on his investigations in a chilling way and it is highly enjoyable to read (or listen to!).....
