Just an Overview of the Malabar butchery of 1921
Yes, it is just that - this book is an overview of the Malabar slaughter of 1921, which had first appeared in the year 1923.And yet this is a book deserving a red carpet welcome 99 years after that historical event, because, there is very little literature available on that big rebellion which is second only to the 1857 rebellion according to one British author. Not surprisingly in both these rebellions the same community had been the guiding force. Certainly, next to nothing is available about the 1921 rebellion in the English language. It is very surprising that Voice of India has not brought out a book on the Moplah rebellion and massacre in all these years. But better late than never, Voice of India has probably brought out the second edition of Gopalan Nair's book, for which it deserves our hearty applause and thanks.Saradindu Mukherji, possibly a Hindu ideologue or a concerned Hindu activist, has written a foreword to this edition of the book. After spelling out the vital bits of information regarding this event, he goes on to weep a couple of lines for the Hindus in the last couple of pages of his foreword, as is the wont of all the Hindu activists. He writes, "The Hindus had every reason to feel that as a community they had no genuine sympathisers and protectors". His concluding line is, "But then, who ever cared for the Hindus?". I am sick and tired of hearing this kind of tears of self-pity from all pro-Hindu people beginning from the RSS. Saradindu Mukherji has rightly pointed out Gandhi's utter callousness for the Hindus and his all out support for the Khilafat movement and sympathy for Muslim aggressions. So whom do the Hindus admire and show their gratitude for? From this book we get to know about one Captain P. McEnroy who with just 125 troops had routed the Moplah forces numbering about 4000 in the battle of Pookkottur in the early days of the rebellion, thus frustrating the Moplah endeavour to convert the entire Hindu population of Ernad to Islam. But do the Hindus even acknowledge the good work of Captain McEnroy leave alone expressing gratitude for that gallant soldier or for the British rulers in general for their protective role not only during the Moplah rebellion but also in their role against Tipu Sultan, and also during various moments of their period of rule in this country? Aren't only Gandhi and Nehru and similar such people who are being deified by the Hindus? So why does Saradindu Mukherji lament about external people not caring for the Hindus when the Hindus themselves do not care for themselves?

Must read to learn about the true side of this Genocide which is whitewashed as Peasant movement.
It's so strange that 100 years has lapsed and still there is no much change in some destructive ideologies. At that time it was Ottoman Empire Caliphate and now its The Caliphate Theory which Terror organisations like ISIS, Al Qaeda etc. Supports. This book is not based on some fiction or imagination or a narrative of a single person's ideology. In fact this is a Blend of all the true incidents happened at that time and were published at that times leading Newspapers and is composed by that time Deputy Governor Sri Chettur Gopalan Nair.Even though I have read this before using soft copies but for the purpose of Print copy purchased this.

A must read in today's political scene.
Excellent. Narrative is a chronicle of events as reported by two leading English newspapers and authors has no pretense to claim originality or historical perspective. More or less a record of events as they happened without prejudice. Good study material.

Truth, the whole truth
My father, a 20-year-old in 1921, had told us kids some of the horrific stories of the Mopla Rebellion. It was surreal then and was buried for the sake of secularism. Only now I know what my father had endured!
