Cars of the Wehrmacht (German Vehicles in World War II)

Very informational overview with loads of interesting photos.
Taken for what it is it’s a great value. An interesting overview of the troop carriers and cars of the war. Just about every marque is represented with a good overview of the standardized medium troop carrier, one body powered by different firms. Seeing the various hoods and grilles with the standard body was enlightening. There’s quick coverage of impressed German civilian sedans and captured French, British and American cars, etc. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult is must of been to keep these cars running in the field. A caption in the book states that many vehicles were lost a result of something as minor as a broken distributor cap. If you’re interestedIn this subject buy this book. You won’t regret it at this great price.

The ideal of German efficiency is absent...
Many cars, most with too little coverage. It does supply good info on some vehicles like the Uniform Heavy Personnel Vehicle, including a photo of the naked chassis and a dashboard shot but the specifically designed for military use vehicles like it should have been in a book of their own.The array of captured vehicles used is truly staggering. Noteworthy is the fact that this diversity of makes and models created a logistical nightmare leading to regular abandonment of vehicles for lack of parts.

Excellent. Highly recommended
I bought three books of this series: Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles of the Wehrmacht thinking they were coffee table books and have been very surprised. All are hard back, all are chaulked full of excellent photos and I was especially impressed with the detailed information in all three books. These books are highly recommended as they give a look into some of the lesser known service vehicles of the Wehrmacht. The pictures also provide a treasure trove of information much greater than just the motorcycle, car or truck being photographed and will provide hours of detailed study. I highly recommend these books for the price. Very pleased.

Better than I expected
This book shows a wide variety of cars used by the Wehrmacht. The information is very good and the pictures are great. I bought it as a model making aid and it has more than filled my expectations.

An obligated reference
This book is a very good reference for cars under Wehrmacht service in WWII. Multiple photos and data of that era .

Cars of the Wehrmacht
A intereting book that shows the cars used by the german army in second world war, the point is the vast types that show how was difficult to maintain and use so many types.

Best overall book on Wehrmacht cars that I have found. Little info provided on development history or performance characteristcs
It's worth reading and there are lots of captioned photos of the incredible number of different makes and models of autos the Wehrmacht used. The reason why I gave it only three stars is because there just isn't much information given on vehicle development history or performance characteristics. Typically, at most the motor cylinder displacement and horsepower are given and that's it. Occasionally, fuel consumption in liters per 100 kilometers is given.Pages 9 -27 give a history of the autos that were used in the German army in the 1920s through the 1940s. It also describes the attempt to develop standard designs for vehicles with reasonable cross-country performance but reality didn't match up with the desires. The section also describes the German (Nazi) government's approach to procuring vehicles: it simply confiscated them from the Geman civilian population and stole them outright from the car owners in occupied countries such as France. I have read elsewhere that the Nazis first confiscated autos from German Jews in the mid-1930s, although that isn't discussed in the book.Pages 92 - 95 provide several photos of three-axle (one front, two rear) cars-- a very rare breed indeed.A minor criticsm: not all the pages are numbered so it can be a bit frustrating at times to find something.Even with the above mentioned issues, this is still the best overall book on Wehrmacht cars that I have found.
