Q: Says 100% waterproof. What is the material 500, 700, 1000d?

I can attest to the waterproofing as we had to drive back from Vermont on a heavy rain. The problems was our system of tying the handles to the bar handle inside the car. The water seeped through the rubber gasket around the doors.

Q: Will this bag work without a rack , only with rails for highway speed cross country move?

We have a 2016 Honda CRV and added the horizontal rails and did the corners clipped to the rails and the rest clipped to the windows & it didn’t move for 14 hours of driving over 2 days. I recommend zip ties around the folded up ends of the straps so they don’t flap in the wind.
