Streetwise Manhattan Map - Laminated City Street Map of Manhattan, New York - Folding pocket size travel map with subway map, bus map

I've used Steetwise maps for several places and always have had great experiences. Pros: folds to brochure size, and laminated so it can go in/out of a backpack or purse throughout the trip without tearing. Cons: this is only for Manhattan and not helpful if you want to explore any of the other burroughs. TIPS: metro: Get unlimited pass for the number of days you will use metro in NYC to save $. You will only need to use the metro pass to get IN to the station, not out. Be careful, if you have to exit the station because you went into the right side, you have to wait about 20 minutes to re-enter. If the street sign doesn't say 'uptown' or 'downtown' then you can probably access both directions through that entry point. Learn what the "end of line" station is for the direction you are going so you get on the metro train going in the right direction. I didn't find the people working at the station particular pleasant, but they did help me when I asked questions. TIP: use the compass on your smart phone to ensure you are walking/driving in the right direction. There is a symbol which shows which direction is north on the map. Your smart phone will not work inside the metro station. TIP: Some lines have an 'express' train which means that they don't stop at every station. You will see them marked on the map in a diamond shape. Regular trains are marked in a circle shape. Also some of the trains don't run nights/weekends. So look at the signs while you are waiting in case you are waiting for a train that won't be coming.

Folded size is 3 3/4 x 8 1/2 which is a really good size if you want to have a detailed street map of Manhattan from Battery Park in the south to Inwood in the north and from the Hudson River to the East River/Harlem River. The map provides a very helpful index of named streets, colleges and universities, concert halls, hospitals, museums, parks, places of interest, etc. There is a helpful map of the Manhattan bus routes which is identical to the one in the small business card size map by the same company. The larger Manhattan street map shows the subway routes and stops in detail, so you find subway stations on a street level! I really like this map, it only has Manhattan a a bit of Brooklyn but it is very sturdy and handy.

Several years ago, we purchased the Streetwise Paris map and were very happy with it. It's served us well through several trips. Prior to a recent trip to NYC, I decided to pick up the NYC version and was equally pleased. The map is fairly compact and fits well into a day bag, inside jacket pocket, or even back pock of your jeans in a pinch. It folds very easily back to it's original folded configuration. The lamination keeps the map clean and damage-free. The map contents seem to be accurate. All-in-all, it was a worthwhile investment. In today's digital age, paper maps are likely being used less and less. Everyone has a smart phone with Google Maps or similar. But I found in the city, it's still nice to have a printed map. GPS reception is quite limited with so many tall buildings around. And by the time you pull out your iPhone, and click and tap and search for your destination, you could be well on your way after consulting a handy printed map such as this. Well worth the price paid.

I really like these maps. I have for LA and Chicago, and even tho' those are several years old, I still use them for getting around basic streets, etc. on current visits. They're good for marking w/grease pencils when you want to know where something is, and how to get there (then wipe clean when done). This Manhattan version joins our collection, and was purchased for a trip, tho' we really didn't use it that much since I was familiar with where we needed to go/be. Most of Manhattan is easy to get around, and a perfect walking city. This map shows subways, but I wouldn't rely on it for that, seems a little confusing. The Metro maps are much better for tube. This is great for streets and neighborhoods.

We used this map during our 5 day trip and it was irreplaceable! Even in our digital age, it was so nice to have an actual map. It's not huge which is nice and the lamination is amazing. I accidentally spilled half of my water bottle in my bag and this map got wet. The lamination started to curl up along one edge but I'm going to tape it and it will be fine. Other than that, it withstood very harsh treatment perfectly. And, to be perfectly honest, it was sitting in the water for probably 30 minutes before I realized what had happened so I wouldn't expect ANYTHING to be that water proof. I expected either a flimsy map or a bulky thing but it was neither. It's just the perfect size to slip into my purse and even unfolded, yes it looks like a map, but it's not huge. I highly recommend this and am so glad we had it for our trip. Well worth the money!

E' davvero essenziale ma nel contempo pratica e di dimensioni ridotte. La consiglio come seconda mappa o da affiancare ad una guida turistica! E' molto robusta e plastificata quindi può essere consultata pure se piove o in ambienti umidi. Consigliata!

I find these maps very clear and concise, main visitor attractions are well noted. Also love the material used on them, easily cleaned.

Ces cartes "Streetwise" sont vraiment parfaites, plastifiées, avec les points d'intérêt généraux. Je les utilise maintenant depuis longtemps (Madrid, Barcelone), et c'est toujours très pratique ! J'ai pu comparer celle-là avec la carte Flexi Guide de Berlitz sur New York et autant dire que celle-ci est -à mon avis- bien mieux pour une utilisation carte uniquement : elle n'a pas de fioritures, elle est assez plate, donc pratique à emporter ! On peut aussi utiliser un marqueur pour pointer ce qu'on veut voir, cela s'enlève au dissolvant sans abimer la carte ! De plus, celles-ci sont régulièrement mises à jour (mais pas tous les ans), et celle que j'ai reçue est "revised 2012" (Amazon m'a toujours envoyé les dernières cartes). En bref : j'en suis vraiment très satisfaite et je ne saurais que recommander ces cartes, surtout à ce prix !!

Used the map over the whole week holiday which made navigating Manhattan very easy. Print size was very good for the amount of information included on a practical fold-able map. This item was also durable meaning we are keeping it for future visits and are resisting requests to lend it in case of loss.
