Bette Midler is a National Treasure, she acted in the Movie and did her own vocals. I have all of Janis Joplin's recordings ,no one in the world could have played the part and sang those songs except the Divine one. I have the Movie , the Album and now the CD. If you get this Cd, also get the movie "The Rose" Starring Bette Midler , It was a big Hit on Broadway in New York .

I bought this CD mainly for the song The Rose which I always thought was Bette at her best. Overall, I like the entire CD but sometimes with some songs, I found her voice a bit grating or not well suited for the song. That being said, she made a great effort in the movie and made the character musically believable. And for 3.99, it was worth it for me to have the CD.

If Bette Midler ever gets inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, she can call "the rose" her ticket in. Her performance in this movie, both as an actor and as a singer, reached new heights, and she has probably never been better at either. Blues and rock'n roll suit her so well you have to wonder why she didn't go this route again. High point: her version of "When a man loves a woman" which gives a well known, done-to-death classic a new spin. Midler AC fans will also bask in the light of the main theme. Ignored at the academy awards (although Bette's performance wasn't) the song did win the Golden Globe months before becoming a big radio hit.The soundtrack also earned Bette the Grammy for best female pop performance of 1980.

Watch the movie and hear the soundtrack and you will understand.

I listened to this cd and my first impression that this is definitely not a cd that I will listen to very often. Bette Midler does an amazing job recreating a hard-driving performer. As a result, it is primarily a very loud, intense and jarring collection of songs with a few softer songs ("The Rose" and an extremely sad version of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart").There is no question that Bette Midler is a multi-talented vocalist and actor.I bought the dvd of this movie also. Perhaps viewing the film and listening to the music directly in the context of the film is a better way to appreciate the overall end result. For me, the cd does not stand on its own merit as an appealing album.

Anyone who only knows Bette Midler from comedies and the "Wind Beneath My Wings" era has missed out on one of the best performances of anyone in a rock movie. She got an Oscar nomination for this and was robbed when Sally Fields won for "Norma Rae" (admittedly a great performance as well). "Stay with Me" is worth the price alone.A positive must-have!

This has been one of my favorite movies. And Bette Midler what a proformance. The music is incredible. I used to play this album when I did my house work.I am very lucky to have found another copy as mine was an album, now a days its hard to find a record player that works. But the cd is better, and easier to take anywhere I go.Bettes rendition is so raw and believable. An amazing proformance. I give it 5 stars.

I Loved this soundtrack album the first time I heard it many years ago I have it on vynal but no stereo now so it was great to hear it again.From the film of the same name based on Janis Joplin story Bette Midler is great in the film and superb on the sound track

I bought this as I thought there was only on song on it, I only wanted the song called The Rose.
