YONGNUO YN300 Air LED Camera Video Light with Adjustable Color Temperature 3200K-5500K for Canon Nikon Pentax Olympas Samsung DSLR Camera + AC Adapter

The product illustration makes it appear as if this is an array of many very small LEDs. In fact it is a translucent panel over an array of not too many LEDs. I am using it for providing light for some macro work & it works, but it is not exactly what I expected. For my purposes I need the AC adapter & that works well; the power cords are long enough for my purposes. I am not sure how this would work as a key light in still or video work. It might be good if the light was fairly close to the subject or you were shooting at a high ISO. It is not so heavy that it couldn't be attached to the camera although it seems to me that it might be awkward with either a battery attached or if trailing around a power cord. It comes with a base & it can stand up, but the stand is easily tipped over; I either tape it down or it could be attached to a tripod or some other device. It also comes with a handle so that you could hold the light in one hand & the camera in the other(?) but that also seems a bit awkward.

Just received this light and tested it out. This light is very bright, brighter than I expected from its size. It is perfect for a fill or to bump another light source. Probably usable as a main light for anything close up. Easy to mount on a stand or use with the handle. The great display shows you power level of light from 1 to 99, and lets you adjust daylight and tungsten LEDS separately to get just the right color. The light is not too harsh as the white plastic front diffuses the LEDs a bit. The unit is nice and I am satisfied, but there are a few things that could be improved.1. You can only mount it horizontally. It would be really nice to be able to mount it vertically or at different angles.2. The power adapter is very short and has a heavy brick that makes using it difficult. I'm going to try and get a different type of adapter.3. The thread to mount this to the provided handle or any type of tripod is plastic, making me think it may strip easily if used often.4. There is no way to add barn doors or other types of light modification. This light is really great for a variety of applications like interviews, youtube stuff, or marketing videos; but to be effective as a cinematic light you would need more control. That's not to say this light couldn't be used creatively for some narrative filmmaking, but it would be nice to have more control over direction, spread, angle, and such.Aside from that, I wish it took regular batteries like double AAs. I'm going to get some of the rechargeable ones and try it out and will update my review. I wouldn't use the cheap quality green cloth (it's rougher than my other ones), but the carrying bag it comes with is nice. If anything goes wrong and my rating changes, this review will be updated.
