Beachbum Berrys Intoxica

Happy I purchased this book. Lots of great ideas for drinks and the best part was the information about the history behind each drink. The artwork was pretty cool too...

This is a great book! I have all 5 of Beachbum Berry's books and am anxiously awaiting his 6th book, "Potions of the Caribbean: 500 Years of Tropical Drinks and the People Behind Them." He is a master of the art of mixology and a historian who has unearthed secret Tiki drink recipes that he shares in these fabulous books Even though his book "Remixed" is an updated version of "Grog Log" and 'Intoxica", combined into one book, I still wanted to own 'Grog Log" and "Intoxica", because I love reading his accurate historical facts, and his take on it all. Just so you know, this book is listed as spiral bound but it is not. The original edition was spiral bound, but this edition is not, even though the description says that it is. I am going to call Amazon and let them know, and maybe they will correct the description. Grog Log specifies "This edition of The Grog Log is NOT SPIRAL BOUND. Intoxica says that it IS spiral bound, but neither of them are. The first editions were spiral bound, but are long gone. Anyway all of these books are a great read with great recipes and artwork.

I have to admit that I had second thoughts after hitting the place order button for this book based solely on price. I had never paid so much for a book before. When it arrived, I poured over the pages and made my Bev Mo list. Coincidentally, my husband and I were headed out for our anniversary that very night and were going to a tiki bar in Alameda, CA - Forbidden Island. [...] We went and had drinks and so many of the drinks were in this book! I was so excited that I kept telling my husband this one is in there, that one is in there... As I've now made a few drinks from the book, I can guarantee to you, if you like tropical drinks, you NEED this book. it's fabulous! Now, I'm so glad I spent the money. Totally worth while.

I really liked the little history bits. Also liked the description of the rums and syrups and other items used in the recipes. Very small book, but the drinks look awesome. Am looking forward to trying the different recipes!

Nothing wrong with this book, and actually it’s pretty cool. Fun art.BUT: this seems a little overpriced for what you get. It’s a very small, flimsy, 92 page black and white booklet. See photos for scale. The Remixed book by same author is way more substantial with colorful art. Still better for your buck is Smuggler’s Cove, which is less than 3x the cost, but is more than 3x as long, with bigger pages, color, and so on. If you want a cheap tiki drink “pocket book,” you won’t be disappointed with this. If it gets splashed, no biggie. If you’re only able to get one tiki book… I may lean toward Smuggler’s Cove. Though be aware, SC is almost a coffee-table sized book, which could be a positive or negative, depending on what you’re looking for.

Fantastic book, just like his first one (Grog Log). Spiral bound to lie flat while you are mixing. Tasty drinks, what more could you want? We have enjoyed "Blood of the Kapu Tiki", "Surf Room Mai Tai" and more. The only downside to Beachbum Berry's books is that you will never want to order a cocktail in a bar again, because you will only want drinks that are as good as the ones in his books.THANK YOU BEACHBUM BERRY!

This is a smallish, slender book, but the cocktails are rare and fantastic. Their are some truly forgotten gems here.

Great tiki book. Simple format, lots of recipes. Give it a go. This is not Smuggler's Cove, but they sure quote it alot.
