John Byrne has become one of those iconic artists in the comic world. Here, he brings his own touch of magic to the world of New Gods and Apokolips. After Jack Kirby, some may say to leave that world alone, but the fourth world is ripe for new interpretations. I can only be pleased we don't have just Kirby's version in print, but Byrne's, plus Walter Simonson's 'Orion' series and Mark Evanier's 'New Gods' which started in 1989 and is now available in paperback. So, I am loving the fact that DC is giving the five star treatment to Kirby's legacy and re-printing all these issues. I also feel that each incarnation tries to hold on to some semblance of the story and the characters that Kirby created. To my mind Kirby was always ahead of his time, which is why any series never lasted long. He was too before his time. Thankfully, we do have what Kirby left behind and with all legacies, the mantle is taken up by others with their own take on the Fourth World... but one always feels that Kirby is looking over their shoulder, just guiding them a little to make sure they don't go too far off track.

Very cool to have this series collected in its entirety, especially for die hard Byrne fans. Not essential reading though. The Simonson run that follows is Orion is a stronger edition to the fourth world saga.

This Omnibus reflects the genius mind of Jack Kirby’s characters portrayed by John Byrne’s brilliance. Love all of these New Gods and definitely a must read for all Comic Lovers !!!!!💚

Super omnibus met oldschool sfeer. Stond niet als eerste op mijn lijst maar toch blij dat ik hem heb. Ben zeer allergisch aan beschadigde comics te ontvangen maar gelukkig ziet hij er prima uit . Dacht even dat dit heel anders zou zijn als ik de medewerker/leverancier hem eerder onhandig uit de bestelwagen zag halen en hem liet vallen op trottoir !!!!!
