Handy tool

This magnetic pick-up tool has been a lifesaver in my garage and on the worksite. It easily finds nails, screws, and small metal pieces I didn’t even realize were there. The magnet is strong, and the extendable arm makes it convenient to reach tight spots. It's exactly what I needed and performs perfectly. If you're looking for a reliable tool to keep your workspace clean, this one won't disappoint.

Great magnet!

Bought this to pick up stray screws and nails at our new construction home. It works very well, even picking up screws a couple of inches away. I advise users to put a plastic baggie over the magnet before use, and then slide the baggie off to remove the magnetized items easily. Pulling small items off by hand is very difficult.

Helped clean up after my home siding job

Great tool. Much like using a metal detector with back and forth motion. Strong too. I'm 6'1" so it would have been nice if the handle extended a bit more but it was good enough to clean up lost nails hidden in dirt and leaves after re-siding my home. Glad I bought it.

Great for picking up small objects

Works great at picking up small metal objects like screws. I could barely pick up a three pound dumbbell so I don't know about the 50 pound claim but for tiny objects you don't want to bend over and pick up or a ton of screws that fall out this is great.

Not as described, but adequate nonetheless

First off, the "50 lb" claim on this listing is laughable, and I knew that going into buying it. A magnet with that strong of a pull would probably itself weigh 3-5 pounds, and would be so large and unweildy that you couldn't reasonably use it on the end of a pole like this. But then again, there's very little chance you'd ever want to pick up a 50 lb item on the end of a pole, with one hand.I tested the magnet on various metal items like tools. It's decently strong. It's certainly not some weak refrigerator magnet type of thing. It easily picked up wrenches and saws and hand shovels, and it even picked up medium-sized garden shears. It mostly held a good sized hammer. It partially picked up a metal box fan. I'd say the max weight hold, if you get a good flat and solid surface against the magnet, might be 2'ish pounds. Certainly more than enough for what you'll likely pick up. But it's not going to pick up a 20 pound hunk of steel, no way.But the real question is, is the magnet strong enough for what you're likely to use this for? I'd guess yes. I bought it to clean up hundreds of rusted nails around a work-site in my backyard. It very capably helped me with that task. I was able to probably get about 20 nails at a time before the strength of the magnetic pull wasn't reliably grabbing more nails. That's fine in my opinion. Yeah, I had to walk over to the trash pile and scrape off the nails (be careful, wear gloves!) somewhat frequently. But I was able to clean up a few hundred nails in about 10 minutes walking around, which was fine to me.Keep in mind that it doesn't grab a nail from a foot away or anything. You have to get the magnet within an inch or so of each nail. This is not like a "metal detector" that you just gracefully sweep around and it gets everything. You have to sort of precisely move the magnet to where nails are, and sort of deliberately place it over each nail or set of nails you want. The main limit of the magnet is its size not its strength. The magnetism that's in the primary magnet is significantly reduced when inducted by the metal (nails), so once its surface area is taken up, you now have 1/10th (or less) of the strength of the main magnet itself. I'd guess the magnet is about 3-4 inches diameter circle (with a small hole cut out in the center for a bolt). This could be bigger, and would let you pick up more at a time. But, oh well. Again, it held maybe 15-20 medium sized carpenter nails (many of them rusted) securely with no issues. The pole you hold is itself kinda heavy, which was a bit disappointing in that it wore out my wrist/shoulder after 10-15 minutes usage. I had to switch hands a couple of times. I'm glad it's sturdy (because, sure, you're going to try to pick up 50 pounds, right!?). But it feels heavier than it ought to be for something that's designed to be used by a single hand. The handle is nothing but flat rubber covering the pole, so don't expect any ergonomic grip helping make usage comfortable. The length of the pole is awkwardly short (maybe 3 feet) at full extension. I'm 5'10" and holding the pole at my side, arm straight down, the magnet just touched the ground. That means I couldn't hold it out in front of me and have it near the ground. And if you're taller, it will require you to bend over no matter the position. Keep that in mind. If you're 5'3", this is probably much more comfortable length of pole. But I think the pole should have been 6 inches longer at its longest. Also, the angle of the magnet head to the pole is weird. You'd need the pole held out well in front of you (and either be 4 foot tall, or hunching down) to get the magnet perfectly flat to the ground. Strange decision here, especially given short'ish pole length. I feel like the steel of the pole could be bent at this joint to get a more natural/usable angle, but I'm nervous to do so in case it might be a brittle weld that breaks. Seems like a strong joint, but I don't want to test my luck.Last annoyance: the label uses that overly sticky glue that makes the paper peel off its upper layers leaving paper/adhesive residue. Really dislike labels like this. Had to fight 5 minutes just to get all remnants of the annoyingly large label off this the pole.Look, this product is a bit annoying in some of its design flaws. But the price is decent, and you DO get a fairly strong'ish magnet that likely does exactly the job you're wanting this for, quite aptly.

Great tool!

Everyone should have one. You can drop a box of nails and pick them all up easily!!!

Great little for picking up nail and screws.

This product is well made and easy to use. It has a strong magnet that picks up nails, screws and even some lightweight metal that has fallen out of trucks on our neighborhood road. It is not adjustable but it is a good length and weight.
