Is it possible to connect a sound board of some kind to this? i would like to run a motor, leds, and sound effects.

I doubt this little board can handle that. It’s really intended for LEDs and small 12v accessories, like on a model train layout.

Anyone find problems with the dimmer. I find it very touchy and does not work at all at times. Is this a defect?

I would say yes. I have four of them and a fifth stays dim all the time! They are working perfectly except that fifth one. I would replace your faulty pdp board. I think you just were unlucky this time. Hope this helps.
