This work is obviously the result of extensive research conducted by interviews and hard fact gathering. The result is a veritable encyclopedia of Scottish beliefs and practices.

There’s no book summary, author bio, or bibliography, so there’s very little to go on as far as intention or expectation for this book, and it opens seemingly arbitrarily with no introduction or background, so I have literally no idea what I’m reading right now.

Solid research material and a fascinating insight into Scottish history.

Truly a "must have" for anyone interested in the Highlands, Islands, Myth, legend, origin of great stories, terminology that runs through (and is often misused in) many modern "magic" books. This is clearly a labor of love by a real enthusiast, and while not absolutely comprehensive will give most of us lots to mull over and enjoy for many happy hours!

I enjoyed reading this book. Some parts of this book are kind of boring, but overall it is interesting to read about the superstitions of people from the 1800's. Makes me wonder how people from that time period ever got anything done on a day to day basis.

Wonderful book, packed with wonderful chunks of folklore. Again, a lovely window into what our ancestors believed and practiced. Made me more proud of my Scottish heritage... it "felt" familiar to read it. .....

WHEN YOU READ A LOT, YOU GET TIRED OF THE SAME OLD THING, SO I ENJOY THIS. IT'S DIFFERENT FROM ANYTHING I HAVE READ BEFORE.

Folklorist John Gregorson Campbell (1836-1891) collected these intriguing tales of witchcraft and second sight in the Highlands and islands of Scotland. They have an authentic feel to them, free of having been polished up for New Age modern consumption.

However it was not as good I hope!
