Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian)

Huge Disappointment
Let me be clear that I like Keri Arthur as an author. Her novels are normally well thought out, well developed, and don't dwell on the erotic to the point of nausea. I did say normally.Problem #1 - Riley is not a good template for a heroine/main character. Like many of the romance novels today (for some Godforsaken unknown reason) she has a boat load of issues. She's fixated on her twin to the point of obsession that's gone way beyond unhealthy. She's also stupid. One thing I can't abide in a main character is stupidity. Her lover drugs her, it's obvious they took blood samples, he's obviously attempting to gain control of her for reasons that can't be anything but bad - and she still refuses to see it. Quinn, the vampire "love interest" actually has her best interests at heart and she refuses to trust him no matter what ... to the point of working against him and putting him at risk due to her "my brother comes first, I can't trust anyone but my brother, I need to talk to my brother" attitude. One expects her to ask her brother if it's OK for her to go to the bathroom.Problem #2 - there are a gazillion ways that were's are portrayed in literature ... this is not a good one. They are totally ruled by lust ... and will basically mate with anything with a pulse. Not attractive. The depiction of were's is terribly cliche and it would be a good idea if no other writer in the history of literature uses it as a model.Problem #3 - ties into the way the were's are portrayed - and leads to something not common for Keri Arthur - it's constant graphic sex. Don't need it. Don't want it. Use your writing skills to suggest - don't beat the reader over the had with the details. She turned this book into pornography. On top of that ... even if the moon ruled them to the extent this book indicates, none of them would be functional for anything else - they wouldn't be able to go to work ... if they had kids they would starve due to lack of attention. The overall result is just nasty and messy. Here's to hoping Keri gets back to writing as she has previously ... well thought out stories, characters that are well developed and don't have so many issues they should be institutionalized, and a minimum of the graphic erotic details.

Not as good as people say
I really don’t understand the hype, it’s just not that good. Half story, half porn, which is not what I’m complaining about. The characters are sexual, so what? but it’s more than that, they have no control, it’s a werewolf thing and they screw like bunnies once a month... if that was realistic then the world would be full of wolves. Yes, they now have computer chips that stop breeding, but they didn’t in the past, so then they would have bred like crazy before birth control became a thing. You want to like the characters but because of the wolf lust all they want, all they talk about, is sex, so they are just semi nice people that are nymphomaniacs. Not a lot to build on there. The plot has so many holes, the characters control each other without consequence, the clones are never ending, all of it is just unbelievable. Sorry, but I say skip it. I think people are talking it up just because it is rare that sex is so much a part of a book. Skip it and read Fifty Shades of Grey or something.

A good read full of action ans suspense
Riley Jenson, is part werewolf, part vampire, although she identifies mostly as a werewolf. She works for an institution which monitors and polices non-humans. Her job is in administration although she is being actively pressured to become an agent. She is dead set against the idea, but when her brother goes missing she has no choice but to go into the field and find him. She soon discovers she been drawn into a world of deception where she has been repeatedly lied to.This book is filled with action and drama and moves along at a surprising clip. It is full of innuendo and sex scenes, which although well written, tended to get a little stale towards the end. The characters I found a little lackluster and I think they could have been better developed. The plot rumbled along but unfortunately telegraphed what was going to happen leaving the reader with no real unexpected twists. Having said all this, I found the book to be a quick-paced enjoyable read. I will be continuing with the series.

Was definitely not expecting this!
I must admit I downloaded the sample for this book and then took over a year to build up to read it. I liked the description of the book when I first downloaded the sample, but as I would read the description to determine if I wanted to read the book, it kept sounding weird. I finally decided to just read it and get it over with.WOW!!! I am mad I waited so long to read it. I have to say that Keri Arthur is a very good author. This book managed to have a bit of everything. I was amazed at the action that was included in this book. Many times I read an action book and the writing is not as descriptive as it should be. However, with this book, I was able to picture the action so that it was like a little movie in my head! And the romance…WOW…it did not quite end up the way I was expecting in the end, but it definitely leaves the romance open for future books. But I have to say it was DEFINITELY HOT!! There is some mystery too that leads into the next book in the series. I love when they do this since it makes me want the next book in the series. I will definitely be reading it soon! All in all, this is a very well written book that pulled me in and kept me engrossed. I pulled a VERY late night reading it and then skipped most of my housework the next day to finish it! Definitely a great start to what seems to be a very action packed, hot and fun series!

Fantastic...
Full of action, adventure, attitude, betrayal, crime, love, romance and sex!.... Fantastic story lines with this book being a huge stepping stone in to a brilliant series! I remember reading these books years ago when they first came out. Well before the kindle age.... They were well loved and passed around to my family eventually falling apart. The fact I'm in the process of replacing them on the kindle should tell you all you lovely people who may read this how good they are.. I'm not going to tell you any spoilers all you need to know is what you read on the information and I hope that will get you hooked... Keri Arthur is one of the most fantastic supernatural writers I have ever come across and I have read most of her series.. There is a lot to choose from and some of the series actually inter link... I use to love the Anita Blake series by laurall k Hamilton but I ended up getting more and more disappointed over the years. I can honestly say it is definitely not the case with Keri Arthur's works....... Hope this helps 😊

Good
I think Keri was put on the earth to make us insomniacs, these books once started need to be finished. There is a lot of sex bordering on excessive and if I'm honest I prefer monogamy. Nothing puts me off a book quicker than a book described as reverse harem and I hope that these don't turn into that. Good story that will continue into the next next book. that will continue

Pretty Good
Wasn't sure what to expect with this, but it was recommended for me after reading another urban fantasy series. As things go, this is borderline erotica at times, but luckily not so much that it steals from the actual story. In terms of characters, it took me a while to warm up to Riley, but as time goes by its clear to see she's a strong independent female lead with a lot of personality. This book, in short, concentrates on Riley's missing brother before falling into a more involved plot. We also meet the main characters for this part of the series, including Riley's boss, love interests and reoccurring acquaintances. As already mentioned, there are a fair number of adult scenes in this book that keep things spiced up in the romance section, but ones that also left me feeling a bit cold - most likely because there are multiple men involved in her life. I understand the characters point of view, but I also felt it made things a little less attractive overall - sometimes when it comes to romance and sex scenes less is more, especially when Quinn comes onto the scene.Overall I enjoyed this book, not the best I've ever read, but a nice introduction to a new series and with characters I'll want to read more about. I've already started the second in the series and have found it more enjoyable than the first, so thing's do get better.

Great read, exciting plot but the main character drags it down!
Overall full moon rising is a great book and perhaps 3 stars is a harsh rating but despite enjoying the fast-paced plot which never left you bored and getting completely caught up in the mystery to be solved, in all honesty the main character drove me nuts. Why is it every time the female lead is strong, smart and independent she has to be a slut in the process! Is that what independent woman translates to? You would think so reading this series!Seriously now i loved this book and to be fair I have read all the books in the series released so far because once you start you really can't stop (you have to know what happens next!) but sadly i actually grudge picking up the next book because of how much i want to beat some sense into Riley. Some of the other reviews say that this book is toned down compared to others in this genre. Its not - there is still loads of sex, probably not as much lengthy graphic scenes as in others but anything but toned down. Some have even said that this series is different to others as the main character does not have sex with many different people when thats all she does! (um...it says she has more than one guy on the back of the book! - and believe me it makes up a big part of the story). Riley spends most of her time having sex with most of the guys she meets (can't really argue the point when she goes to sex clubs!), prostituting herself for information, being unable to resist sex with men trying to kill her and seeming to enjoy being apparently raped by the afore mentioned guy - all because she is a werewolf and can't control herself, or that werewolves have different opinions on sex (which the author states around a million times). Either way she pretty much disgusted me throughout this book and in all to follow. Maybe Im a bit of a prude, I don't know, I like sex in a good book as much as the next person (obviously or I'm reading the wrong type of books!)- i just prefer it to be the heroine actually being in love with 1 guy and not 2 or 3 and still finding more to sleep with!. Had this book been like that it would be perfect - like the other reviews say the plot is great and in fact better than most but this flaw drags the entire series down for me. With this series you will love riley or hate her but I guarantee that you will enjoy the storyline as long as you ignore her infurating relationship issues. And I hate to spoil anything to come but ignore the whole "Quinn is awesome thing" - I thought that too but he becomes just as annoying as riley and not a reason to keep reading.Ok. Rant over - the books are good but I personally wouldn't have started reading them had I read a review like mine before buying the first one. (The "I have to sleep with every guy I meet" thing doesn't do it for me). Now that I have I will read the whole series as each book ends by setting up the next one and to be fair to the author - her plot is really good but I hope the riley jenson book i just bought (moon sworn) is the last one because as much as I want to know what happens in the end, my enjoyment of this series has been spoiled by a main character I find very difficult to like. All in all I tend to rate books highly if I will read them over and over again and I certainly won't be doing that with this series.

promisicous werewolf spoils story
This book is well written, has a semi-decent plot and some good characters, particularly Quinn the vampire. However the story was slightly spoilt for me when the main character half vampire/half werewolf Riley, has to basically sleep with any randy man near her because of the week leading up to the full moon. So for example in one day she spends most of it with her different sex mates jumping from one bed to another. Maybe I'm a bit of prude but I'd rather the heroine stuck to one man and maybe one other who she actually cared for. Too much detached sex in this book and very little romance! Riley just doesn't care enough about anything but her sexual needs and it's a shame because it puts me off the rest of the series.
