Expensive, but works great
This tool is expensive for what it is, but I did manage to save $5 buying a used one. It had some sheetrock dust on it, but otherwise was in great shape. I bet someone used it for their project and then just returned it.I've run HDMI and optical cables in wall before at a previous house using a straightened clothes hanger and it was a nightmare as I kept getting stuck on the insulation. I needed to wall mount a TV at my new house and decided to give this tool a try. It worked extremely well and I ran 2 HDMI cables and an optical. I ran one at a time and the magnet held securely all the way down the wall each time even on the last cable when the hole was getting tighter. I was done with it in just a couple minutes which really made the install go smoothly. I highly recommend buying this.

Well worth the purchase!
This tool made an annoying job easy. The price is right and made it worth it to purchase for a few small projects. To good - simple to use, durable construction, very strong magnet had no problem connecting through drywall, plenty of extra slack on the string which makes it easy to fish through a wall.I don’t want to knock it because the purchase was completely worth what I paid but there is some room for improvement. There isn’t any soft material between the magnets - if you plan on slide it across a wall add a small piece of felt or something to the round magnet to prevent scratching up your wall. The slack of the string is nice but really long... almost too much and tangles easy. A better material would have been nice but, it works.I’d recommend this product without hesitation. There are others like it at a much higher price point that probably work a little better but, for most applications, you’ll do just fine with this.

Worked Fairly Well
Success!! Okay, So I had to extend three feet of speaker wire up a wall which had insulation; 3 feet. I had the original hole for the speaker and had to make a new hole 3 fee above. The magnetic end of the rope is of decent size so I had to enlarge the hole on both ends (no biggie) so it would fit. I was able create a path from the top down about 2 feet; pulled it out and went from the bottom-up and finally created a path. Tip- when going through insulation, make sure you push back the insulation on entry so the magnet in the wall is up against the drywall. Also when pulling the magnet through the wall, be prepared to zig-zag your way down (up) the wall. You will eventually get there. Hope this helps!

Used this for the 1st time 2 days ago
It was very helpful. Was on a re-wiring project and needed to get 2 romex wires through a very tight area. I was able to drag the lug about 2 feet using the magnet on the underside of the ceiling board - wood, about 3/4" thick. It did get stuck and wouldn't go any longer. The wood may have been too thick. I taped the magnet to the end of a long piece of molding and threaded it into the crawl space to the lug. I was able to capture the lug and pull it to myself. I then taped the wires that I needed and was able to fish them up through the hole and on to myself. Easy peasy. This will be in my tool bag until it wears out and it will be replaced. A very cheap way to do a job that makes me money. I'd say that after using it just 1 time, it's already paid for itself.

Perfect for the job
To be truthful, some of the reviews concerned me, but for a DYI’r with just a couple of wires to pull (through insulation) I figured I would try it for the price. Worked like a champ. Granted it’s not as easy as it would be through a hollow wall, but to be honest thru a hollow wall I’d likely just use a fish rod or glow rod. You do have to be patient and work it back and forth a bit if it catches, but the one that costs 3xs this one also says the same. In about 10 minutes I had both cables pulled and my media room now has hidden speaker power wires! I could see how regular users might need to spring for a different and more expensive rig. But for the amount that I pull wire, this was perfect.

Did not work in my insulated wall
I got this hoping to be able to fish some cat5e cable from near the top of a wall down to a wall jack at the bottom. The wall was 5/8" drywall and was insulated with thick batting. Unfortunately, the magnet was not strong enough to overcome the resistance of the insulation. I ended up having to get a fiberglass wire fishing rod set to get it done. I think this is a good idea and would probably work well in non-insulated walls, however I think you could make your own magnetic setup for the same or slightly less money. You just need to buy strong enough magnets. Some people have knocked the size of the hole required to fit the in-wall magnet through. I found I had to make a 1 1/2" wide by 1/4" tall hole to fit it into. That is pretty big, but you need big magnets to get the strength needed. From what I could find, if you want a magnetic wire pulling system, you either need to go with this, or a 3/4" round magnet. Take your pick.

Union Electrician
I was skeptical at first, this worked better than I could have hoped for. It has a great hold even through drywall.

Very large magnet Didn't work on insulated walls
First off the magnet is very large. You will need to drill at least a 1 in hole in the wall or start from the attic to use it. Also, it did not work on insulated walls. Finally, it got stuck on any metal in the wall being nails, electrical wires (yikes), and another metal.

calidad
el imán no es muy potente pierde contacto, y el acabado del producto se ve de mas baja calidad a comparación a lo que se muestra en la pagina.

Absolute magic!!!
Needs a good sized sized hole but works like a charm. An excellent tool to have in your inventory.

Excelent for the task.
Works great on hollow or light insulated spaces. Cannot get past dense insulation.
