Kingston DataTraveler Exodia DTX/256 GB Flash Drive USB 3.2 Gen 1 - with Protective Cap and Keyring in Multiple Colours

256GB used to be a good sized hard drive - now available as this tiny device. I worried about some odd messages on a pc so backed up it's 100+GB's of files, pictures and downloads on this . It took about one hour in total but worked perfectly and I feel this provides an excellent extra back up very cheaply indeed.

Great value for money since it costs almost the same as 128GB versions there. Not the quickest, but definately has good transfer speeds so you wont get old waiting for the files to transfer.

This drive is a great capacity for the money. But, after it's taken 14 hours to write 215GB to it, I'm having second thoughts. That is excessively slow!

I needed an affordable way of storing nearly half a terrabyte of photographs and videos, and so chose to purchase two of these Kingston USB sticks. They're of sturdy construction, with a connector cap which clicks firmly into place. The stick is also a nice size; not too big, but not so small that you could drop it and never find it again! By default they come formatted as FAT32, but I easily reformatted mine to the NTFS File System so that they could store files greater than 4GB in size. The speed of transferring data is a little on the slow side, and it took a good few hours to fill a stick, but I know Kingston is a reliable brand and would choose reliability over speed every time. I'll certainly be buying more.

Ok.. so, I have either used Kingston, SanDisk or Crucial for storage medias purely because they are highly reliable. Now.. these 256gb usb sticks are something else in the positive, not that quick but again very reliable, I bought two of them to reduce carrying other memory sticks. As for different operating systems supporting these devices, no problem on Windows, Mac, Linux and even Android (mobile platform using a hub usb-c). As a computer tech of 30 plus years experience, I can positively say that these memory sticks are highly recommended for portable storage.

I bought this pendrive thinking it would be great for transfering large files around. In theory it is because 256GB is a substantial amount of storage space for a USB drive. Sadly, the performance is so poor, you wouldn't want to use it to transfer anything but the smallest files you have, which defeats the purpose of it being 256GB. When copying gets started you think it's going to be okay and then very shortly after you get trapped in a loop of going up to 47MB/s for a few seconds and then back down to 355KB/s, where it spends even longer. This cycle continues for the duration of the file and then on into the next and subsequent files in the queue. The short video I attached was a snapshot of moving 1.5GB files from an M2.NVMe SSD to the USB plugged into a USB 3.2 port, you can clearly see this loop in action. I don't know what chipset or technology is inside this drive but it's clearly broken because performance issues are commonly reported with this Exodia drive. It's the first time I have bought a Kingston USB drive and it's not a mistake I will be making again. It does seem quite a durable pendrive as it survived being thrown across the room into a wall... and that was without the protective cap attached. I certainly wouldn't recommend this drive to anyone.

Nice looking and solid build. Very fast read speed (200Mb/s -ish from memory), but very slow to write at up to 12Mb/s (Usb 2.0 speed) - Not practical when trying to fill the large 256GB capacity (It would take well over 5h+ to fill the drive). I therefore had to return these back to Amazon.

Excellent! I'm generally wary of cheaper products, but had Kingston products before. I was Not disappointed. Loads data fast and is a reliable data storage product, despite being on the lower price range. Thanks Kingston I am and remain a pleased and grateful customer

the USB speed is very slow. disappointing. 100mb/s going down to 40mb/s.
