It keeps the bugs and spiders out.
I had a plastic (nylon) one from Lowes but it finally gave up when the seal started to fall apart. So Because this had a low price and looked to be pretty good I bought it. I am not disappointed. In a prior review I read to crimp the edges of the seal so the rubber does not slide. Good call and it works well. I did have to cut this one some to fit but that was expected. In the end I broke the outer curved Lip off because it bent during installation and I did not need a rain shield. But for the price this is a good (not great) door sweep. Should last longer that the last one and keep out what it should. Also best price too.

Great price and Quality
Well worth the price. I usually take my time and research most of my purchases when buying at Amazon. Under $10 is the best price I could find. Most prices are about $13 to $16 for this same brand. The two I bought work perfectly on my garage entry and front door. Trimming is involved with either a hacksaw or other device which can cut through Aluminum which is very easy to trim.I saw a couple complaints about the rubber seal sliding out when opening and closing the door. They said it was worthless because it kept coming out. Also some stated the rubber was rolling up or the door closes really hard. These people need to know how to properly install and use certain products their not familiar with.First of all the product is designed for Saddle type thresholds. These type are designed to just brush up against the bottom seal enough so you can’t see light coming through which keeps bugs, dust and other things from getting in you’re home or business. The thresholds I have are the adjustable height saddles which can be lowered or raised up to seat perfectly agsinst the rubber seal.4 Screws can be adjusted to make a perfect fit.If you do not have an adjustable threshold the proper way to make the seal work is to trim the door bottom until it just touches the seal.I realize this means a lot of work but it’s the proper way to install a bottom seal if you don’t have an adjustable threshold. If the seal is rolling up it’s because they didn’t adjust their saddle height or they don’t have one that can be adjusted. As for the seal sliding out it simple to just squeeze the end of the aluminum to pinch the seal in place on both ends. It only takes a small pinch on the very end of the door shoe. That’s the type of product this is so It’s like slipping a shoe on the bottom of the door. (U-Shaped) Before ordering your threshold door seal make sure you understand which type of door threshold you have. There are many different type seals used on front doors, side or garage entry doors. Check which type you have before ordering to ensure proper type. One other complaint was the drip cap which is designed for any door that is exposed to the outside elements which can get rain or snow on it. It helps keep the water from sliding down the door and into the threshold which many of them are made of a wood and can warp over time and aski leak into your building or home. Both ends usually need to be trimmed just a small amount to ensure it doesn’t close onto the door jam seal. This will not change the way it seals on the bottom of the door threshold. It’s just a drip cap that isn’t actually needed and you can find some other thresholds door bottoms without them.See photo. Notice that the end of the threshold is still at the very the end of the door bottom. It’s just that drip cap that you cut with either a hacksaw, or I used my Dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut it down to the threshold surface only. Do not cut it all the way through. Once it’s cut you can bend the piece back and forth a couple times with pliers and it will break off. I did this in both ends. Hope this review helps with any questions about door thresholds and bottom shoe seals. There are literally dozens of different door jams, thresholds and door bottom seals available. If your still not sure which type to get I suggest taking several photos of your door bottom and the threshold on your phone and take it to a store like Lowe’s or Home Depot and Show them the photos. They can help you by showing you several of the types they have and you should be able to figure out the best path for you to take. Good luck.

Immediate Frustrating Vinyl Strip Issue
I noticed reviews for multiple door bottoms that mentioned issues with the strip portion. To avoid this, I was specifically looking for a product that was a single continuous piece (vinyl strip attached). So, when I opened the package and found that the vinyl strip was separate, I was slightly annoyed that 1) I didn’t just know that it was two pieces, and 2) it wasn’t advertised clearly (unless you zoom in and can read the blurry writing on the photo of the product packaging). In the end, the gap under my door beat my gut instinct and I decided to try it anyway. The installation was simple, it fit my door perfectly, wasn't an eye sore, and seemed quite sturdy so I was initially quite satisfied with the item, but that was extremely short lived – like, one or two times opening the door short lived. The exact issue I was worried about and trying to avoid occurred. On one end of the door bottom, about three inches of the vinyl strip refuses to stay inserted and after countless times of pointlessly reinserting it, it’s a twisted mess that just hangs there, not blocking that section of door gap. Since I live in an apartment, I’m not trying to remove an item I screwed in so the only solution I can think of is to purchase a replacement strip and then attempting to screw that into the door (sounds like a bad idea when written). If the strip were to stay in place, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this item, but since my measurements are correct, I’m struggling with how to advise others or whether I’d suggest this item so I feel all I can say is, take what you can from this review and I hope something helps.

very tight fit on 1 3/4" metal entry door
it took some work to get it on my metal entry door as the strip is bent under 1 3/4"I customized it to work on my in-swing door and it is working well to get water farther away from bottom seal

Check your door gap
Before you buy be sure to measure the gap from your door bottom to the top of your adjustable threshold. You'll need at least ½-inch of space, and more adjustment (lower) in your threshold. For a perfect fit, measure the width of your door at the bottom; cut the cap to this size. Next, measure the width of your door jamb and trim the drip flange to this measurement. Trim the bottom seal to match the overall length and slide it in place. Attach the cap to the bottom of your door and make appropriate adjustments to your threshold. Two things I didn't like about this were the angle of the lips, and the bottom seal. The inside and outside lips of this cap were not perpendicular to the bottom. They both leaned out to the front (outside) of the door. When installed, this caused the back (inside) edge to hang down. With some gentle persuasion from a hammer, I was able to make the front (outside) almost perpendicular to the bottom. If you have enough adjustment to drop your threshold, this angle might not be a problem. The second issue was the bottom seal; it slides too easily in the bottom channel. When I closed the door, the seal slides toward the door handle side, striking the door jamb. I'll add a dab of caulk on the one end to keep it in place.Overall, a good drip cap at a decent price (ten bucks).

Not an easy install when it has to be cut to size
What makes it good also makes it bad. Heavy duty quality but super hard to cut! Tin snips cut really poorly. Used cutoff wheel and grinder to cut to size. Rubber underneath is so thick can barely fit in my doorway. Had to line to get to fit. Seems close to air tight though.

Solid and attractive, but rubber insert is a pain
No problem installing, and it looks good. Very solid. The only problem is the rubber insert. It slides (leaving a gap ... depending on which way it slides). Tried foam double-sided tape, but got bunched up. Tried bending the ends in (as per someone else's review), which works but is unattractive. If it wasn't -15 ouside, I would take off the door and run a couple small screws through the insert into the door ...

Not bad.
Overall not bad, but I did have to muscle this product a bit to make it fit the door. Also, I did need to pull the rubber at the bottom through a small channel which was a tight fit and I may have stretched the rubber a bit; the rubber relaxed about 1 inch when I was done so needed to add an additional piece, so FYI pull the rubber through and let it relax prior to cutting.
