Thank you for your message. No, the gas canister is not contained under the fire pit. The item comes with a 3m long hose that you need to use in order to connect to the gas canister. Therefore, the gas canister can be stored at your convenience. We suggest you store it as far away from the fire as possible, in a well ventilated place. I hope this information helps.
