Decade of Decadance
I have to confess that I lost touch with Tyla’s music after “More uncharted heights..” (this was before the internet & Tyla’s solo records were as rare as hens teeth, & I don’t download music ) so didn’t become reacquainted with his music till “The Devil’s supper”, so fortunately a lot of the music on this excellent retrospective box is new to me.The five music CDs are split into themes (I always prefer that to a chronological system), disc 1 is rockers, 2 is ballads, 3 acoustic (I always find that Tyla is at his strongest when he unplugs), & 4 is blues, although the music on this CD doesn’t sound a million miles away from the rock one.The sixth cd, is Tyla musing about his life, entertaining (he defiantly has the gift of the gab) but I'll probably only listen to this once. The Dvd consists of promo video for songs from Devils Radio, State we’re in & Another Day, there all a bit low budget & what is far more interesting is the live acoustic section of the dvd, it's just a shame that there isn’t an entire show. You also get Tyla playing solo version of various songs, & telling the story behind them on the Dvd extra bit.The box is about the size of a regular CD & under an inch in depth so it fits through your post box, plus keeping the design simple, keeps the costs down (still not happy for having to pay £100 for Dylan’s “Basement tapes” box set!).So an outstanding, if bewildering large body of work, which will really take a few months to fully digest, & yet still further proof (if further proof is needed) that Tyla is exceptional talent who is far from done.Good bless you Tyla (why does he call himself Tyla J. Pallas now? If it aint broke…).
