2009 release, the first ever CD reissue for this much sought-after soundtrack to Peter Bogdanovich's famous depression-era comedy, featuring Ryan O'Neal and his 10 year old daughter Tatum, who memorably stole the show and walked away with an Oscar. The much heralded score exclusively comprises hits of the period with such numbers as 'Let's Have Another Cup of Coffee' and 'Keep Your Sunnyside Up' exemplifying the cheery chin-up mood of the period. As a significant additional feature, to complement Paper Moon our edition comprises beautifully restored '30s recordings of Django Reinhardt and the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, playing the repertoire upon which this fantastic guitarist's reputation was founded. THE TABLOID INSERT REVIEW WAS UNNECESSARY
A film that was for my symbolic of my youth. I was 12 when it came out, about a year older thna Tatum. I saw the film obsessively and my dad took me to see it over 8 times. I recorded the actual soundtrack sitting in the back seat of the Torrance Theatre, a drive-in with specially purchased cassette tapes (they were blue plastic) so I could later enlist the neighborhood kids into the varying parts and shoot ourselves a "movie" (it was actually a slide show) which I later presented in the garage my grandmother has dressed up as a movie theatre, with curtains and all. The slide projector was hidden behind the upper level of what has been designed as a mechanics oil station but it worked like a charm. My youth was full of wonder. A couple years before I had seen Love Story and fallen in love with Ali McGraw and RYan O'Neal both. Who knew? This digital CD made for a perfect way to upload the songs to my computer, I own four copies of the Vinyl Disc but have no record player. I just loved looking at the cover. Now I can play the songs. My only pet peeve is the dirty tabloid description of Tatum and RYan O'Neal, they only needed to say the good things about Paper Moon and their associations, maybe the films the followed which by their assessment were all dismal failures (they were not) but what truly rankled me was the spiteful manner they were redressed in the CD insert, how they were to slide into obscurity, drug addiction, estrangement, and lack of work. It was a tragic truth I already knew about but seemed to be described, not with compassion but with spite. Hence I say in a "tabloid" sensationalist manner, as if we who would buy this CD would relish all the tawdry gossip about them. They are public performers, yes. But that doesn't mean we have any right to drag their human weaknesses and profound sorrows through the coals, over and over. It would have been nice had they merely covered the history of the songs, the story of the musical artists of the Depression Era in America (after all its the MUSIC we have purchased not the film DVD) and left the celebrity gossip and tear down of these good, if flawed, human beings to the rags in supermarkets.Otherwise I love the purchase and enjoy the music daily again.

Finally available on CD with bonuses
Paper Moon's soundtrack was assembled using original popular 1930s tracks, all difficult to find in good condition on their own, and incorporated into the movie in a piecemeal manner, with very few (if any) played to completion within the movie itself. The soundtrack was released on LP and cassette originally, and available for only a limited period of time. We now finally have a CD release including all the tracks from the LP (through track 15) as well as 11 additional tracks of vintage 30's recordings from Django Reinhardt. The first 15 tracks are originals, not covers, and are from greats such as Tommy Dorsey (track 13), Hoagy Carmichael (track 9), and so forth.Recording quality is high, but realize that these are 1930s recordings. Yes, they're cleaned up, but don't expect them to have the level of fidelity that you would expect from a new release. The CD booklet includes some detail of each track as well as a discussion of the rise and fall of Peter Bogdanovich.Paper Moon came out 36 years ago (can that really be true?) so this CD release is long overdue. It has received appropriate attention and is well worth the purchase price whether you liked the movie or simply are a fan of the 1930s genre of music.

Paper Moon Soundtrack CD Review
I love it! In my opinion, this soundtrack CD is on an equal level of enjoyment with the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou? The music is certainly different than the bluegrass of O Brother, tending more towards popular radio-style hits of the '30's as opposed to the slightly rustic in nature of the O Brother songs. Also, the O Brother soundtrack took old songs and had modern musicians re-record the songs. This soundtrack uses the original old recordings, and they sound terrific! Both very entertaining compilations in their own rights! These are very good quality recordings considering the age of the original recordings. I didn't hear any hiss or pop that sometimes comes with older songs being transfered to digital. A nice (and unexpected) addition was the bonus tracks by Django Reinhardt. It's certainly one of the best film soundtracks of the modern era of film-making.

So glad to finally have this soundtrack
I would love to give this 5 stars as the original album is worth that and then some, but..... Remastering is spotty at best, CD sound quality is fair at best, and the added tracks from Reinhardt are interesting but don't really mesh well with the soundtrack album. But then again, jeez Louise, this soundtrack album is finally out, it is more than listenable, and I can play "Sunny Side Up" "Cup of Coffee" and "Banks of the Ohio" over and over. So I guess this is one of the highest recommended four star ratings I have given.

An incomplete soundtrack that needs an update
I love this film but there are MANY tracks missing from it that are heard in the film. I personally spent a year chasing them all down and creating my own CD.The music is great however, relaxing, nostalgic.Dave Brudie

Great music from a great movie
I loved the movie which is where I heard some of the music. These are terrific songs from this era and so well produced. Anyone who liked the music from the twenties and thirties and the jazz from that time would love this. I could not stop singing It's only a Paper Moon and so many more.Well worth it.

If you love the film you will love the CD with even happier tunes
If you enjoy bygone days music this is it. I love the film and hearing my favorite tunes from it makes me smile. The extra added attraction to this CD is Django Reinhardt!! There is a full album of his music on this CD that will send you through the moon and back. It is a must for any party also!

The soundtrack itself is sublime and I am delighted that it's FINALLY available on general release
Peerless!. Not so keen on the Django Reinhardt 'extras', but not bothered. The soundtrack itself is sublime and I am delighted that it's FINALLY available on general release.
