Yes, you keep the valves in, the no spill function only works with them in. Make sure that the valve is in properly but making sure that the slit in the valve is over the spout where the child puts their mouth. You can increase the flow by putting your pinky through the slit in the valve and stretching it out a bit.

Is this a guarantees spill proof cup i have been through 10 cups already

Pretty much. I’d say 95% of the time. There are rare occasions when the cup is dropped hard and the silicone valve might come out of place making it leak through the spout but I’ve learned to check when that happens. It never leaks through the cap.

Does this cup have a cover/lid to prevent the spout from getting dirty if it drops onto the floor of say, dirty NYC subway or something like that?
