Tried these for digestion.

After discovering large spice containers on Amazon, I am hooked for spices used often. A small 1.5 oz container at the grocery store is $7. Here you get 14oz for $17, here you get 9X the amount and a convenient container. I also buy the cracked black pepper and large bag of dried chives. If you cook a lot, these spice offerings are a great value .

Packs a Fennel punch

For me, I judge my spices by McCormick spices. I have used them all my life. I remember McCormick spices always being in my mother's kitchen. Sometimes, I try a different brand and they are flavorless and McCormick is definitely better. There are times that I buy a different brand and that brand is definitely better than McCormick.Which brings me to McCormick's fennel seeds. I did a side by side taste test of my brand on hand and compared it to this McCormick's fennel seeds. I personally liked the one I had on hand better. I thought it a more sweeter and licorice like flavor.I describe the McCormick's fennel seeds as a mild tasting fennel seed. Not an in your face full of flavor fennel seed. Just as sweet as the one on hand, but the licorice like flavor lacking.I used the Fennel seed to make a Merguez spice blend for a Mediterranean stuffed eggplant recipe. I chose this recipe in part because spice blend has a considerable amount of fennel seed. The recipe turned out very well. My husband enjoyed it for its milder flavor of the licorice like fennel seed. I could still taste the fennel, it was lighter flavored, not as prominent as other times I have made. It have blended better with the other spices in the blend because of it.This is a 1 pound container of whole fennel seeds. Perfect if you use it a lot or to share as I will be doing.

As someone who’s an avid food fan that attempts to liven up any dish with exotic flavors, this recommendation was a pleasant find. I like experimenting with different herbs, spices, condiments, natural and organic food products, so I was curious by the flavor profiles I could get by using this well-known brand’s whole fennel seed product compared to the others I get from the international aisle at the grocery store. That said, when I saw this offering and the way in which it was packaged, produced, and delivered, I just knew it was worth a try.First of all, these whole fennel seeds are packaged in a large restaurant sized clear see-through container with a large twist on lid. The clear see-through container gives you the opportunity to see the contents up-close. The container isn’t vacuum sealed and is a little more than ¾ full. For the most part, the whole fennel seeds are completely finished, look clean and natural. Opening the container there was a nice vibrant and sweet-smelling aroma that packed a subtle essence, that was a sign of good quality and freshness.Aside from the obvious use of fennel in foods, there’s also benefits such as helping with indigestion, constipation, improving eyesight, promoting healthy skin, managing blood pressure, reducing water retention, etc. As a food spice, I’ve tried these fennel seeds in a number of different ways which delivered a nice sweet / licorice flavor profile! I’ve used these in Chinese, Italian, Middle-Eastern, Mediterranean, Moroccan, Thai, an Indian, dishes, and each time the level of fennel taste was noticeable.Overall, these are a very good, high quality fennel seed product. The taste / flavor profile is delightful and you can get a good variation of uses in different cultural dishes from this one spice container. I'm very pleased with these fennel seeds. The aroma in the container is excellent, and the flavor is spot on. This is a very versatile seasoning, so a large bottle such as this goes quicker than you would think. I love the taste of fennel in a lot of dishes, but especially when I'm making pork sausages or patties. The taste of fennel just blends everything together in a delightful way.This is also excellent in tea. I sometimes grind up the seeds a bit, or if I'm feeling very ambitious, toast them first. But they are also quite good added as-is (using an immersion steeper teaspoon or ball). It adds a delightful flavor to herbal tea, especially anything with ginger in it.Zero complaints. It's fresh, flavorful and a good value for the price.

These seeds are fresh tasting and smelling.  I have used fennel in baking or cooking, but I have heard that it is good for soothing the stomach.   I often have an upset stomach and would much rather take a natural remedy than a manmade one.   I pour a small handful of fennel seeds into my hand and chew them thoroughly, and within a few minutes, my stomach feels much better.  I love the flavor, and the whole seeds are easy to chew and digest. I’m happy that none of the seeds get stuck in my teeth.   I haven’t had the spice that long, but I am excited to experiment with it in various Italian dishes and sauces.  I love the versatility and distinct flavor!
