Interesting reading this from the perspective of ground crew. I served with Det.1, 460th TRW in 1968, and launched 264 on her final mission, and relaunched the air crew in another RB-57E, to cover its (264) destruction by fighter/bombers from Bien Hoa to secure the classified equipment and Intel on board. Very tense and scary day in my life!S/Sgt. Richard A. CooleyDet 1, 460th TRWTon Son Nhut AB, RVNJan 1968 - Jan 1969

Reading about the early years of Viet Nam in David's book was really an eye-opener for me. I was in the USMC headed for Viet Nam, was pulled off for service in Okinawa and I never made it in-country, but I always wondered what it would be like. In reading David Karmes book I felt like I was there with him. I have read a lot of history on Viet Nam and think this is the best book of the early years I have ever read. A must read for those interested in learning or experiencing that era. Danny Briel

He was a non combat soldier but not without some serious adrenalin rushes and close calls.
I loved this book. You can really "feel" his experience in the pages. It is totally different then any other war story I have read. It tells in detail of his love, pride and sacrifice for our country. You almost feel as if you were there too. His duty and work ethic were outstanding. He was a non combat soldier but not without some serious adrenalin rushes and close calls. This is a very good read from a very real prospective. I highly recommend this book.
