Larger holes allow easier access for hungry juveniles, but still low enough for your smaller chicks. The top slides off for filling or clearing out accumulated pine shavings. Less expensive than both of the farm stores in our area AND it was Prime shipping! What’s not to love?

*update*I actually pulled this out of the recycling to check it out again as I was desperate for a feeder. I cut myself again putting the thing together!! I can’t understate how sharp this entire thing is! It should be advertised as an automatic chick slaughtering device!!!Sliced my thumb taking it out of the box. The whole thing is like a razor blade. Flimsy, dangerous trash.

The edges are really really sharp on the stainless steel, I recommend you get a plastic feeder, or just grab some sandpaper. It's cheap and it does it's job, I think it's the cheapest I saw.

The metal is so thin and not sturdy. When my chickens climbed on top of it to eat out of it the lid constantly slid off.One of my chicks sliced her foot open on the metal and my daughter cut her hand several times on the thin sharp metal.Would not buy again.

The edges are very sharp because the thin metal is stamped and not deburred. It feels like something that cost $0.35 to make. If it was much thinner, it would be foil. I was afraid to cut myself.After spending 15 minutes carefully sanding all the edges, I feel slightly better about using it without damaging my birds.The design would be fine if the metal was 2 or 3 times the thickness and edges were rounded at the factory.UPDATE: It cut my thumb. ZERO STARS

Works great and our chickens seem fine with it. They of course poop on it and we have to clean it everyday, but that's just what chickens do. Would buy again!

Hey this thing is built for chicks, not trex's, will work just fine. Some folks need to complain about anything, including sunshine.

This is made of a very thing metal and the edges are not buffed which makes them very, very sharp. I think the chickens will be protected by their feathers, but be very careful handling this product.
