Bad Reviews are missing the point
I have read the entire series and absolutely loved it. Yes the first chapter was a little slow but that is because SJM is introducing a new world. She has to help everyone understand it. Secondly everyone saying Celaena is the best then how comes she got caught - that's the whole point and if you read it properly you will see that she has a very good reason for getting caught. The so called "plot holes" are not plot holes, they simply prepare questions to be answered in the next book. Get a couple chapters in to where they prep for the competition and you'll be wanting to know more. The series as a whole is fantastic (It gets better and better with every book) I promise that. SJM always blows your mind. Accept that she has done a more sassy character than most YA books (where would the fun be in repeating characters all the time?). Accept that this is the new world. And if you read Assassin's Blade (mini short stories) then you will see exactly why she is the best if you cannot get past the whole she got caught but had a very good reason thing.Strong characters. Strong plot (leaves some of it open for book 2). Good pace. Good attention to detail. Just keep reading, I promise you will fall in love with the series.

Five stars is simply not enough.
I'm genuinely struggling to put into words how gripping and compelling this story truly is.When it comes to novels based in new worlds I normally struggle to get gripped on the story, but from page one I could easily see the world Sarah masterfully created. And from page one I was hooked. It's the kind of novel I couldn't wait to finish, but at the same time I didn't want to read it as it came to an end.Sarah created a new world, one full of mystery and wonder. The story had me hooked so much that I went through the motions with the characters, I laughed, flushed, cringed, and cried throughout. The third person, head-hopping writing perspective is becoming a new favourite reading style for me, it gave a broader outlook on the story as a whole, and gave a closer look at the characters.Celaena, she wasn't what I expected, in a pleasantly surprising way. It became quite clear early on that those in her close company could only grow to love her as I did. She was written so well she didn't feel like a character in a story.I feel like she is a good judge of character, so when she liked someone I was immediately drawn to them, and when she hated someone I felt that too.“When she missed – well, even the fires of Hell couldn't compare to the rage that burst from her mouth.”This has to be my favourite description of Celaena written from Dorian's point of view. I laughed, probably harder than I should have, but that moment was completely priceless.I love Dorian, Chaol, Nehemia and Elena in equal measure. I hope to see Nox again too.I truly cannot wait to get lost in Sarah's world once more in Crown of Midnight, also, how amazing is the cover artwork on these novels?!

A Good Beginning
I've loved the ACOTAR series by Sarah J Maas and there is a constant frenzy about the Throne of Glass series and how it is better than the adventures of the inhabitants of Velaris so I had got curious. After all, if so many people say something is good? You tend to believe them.Whilst I found Throne of Glass to be far easier to get into than the prequel I had previously attempted, I did wonder just why so many people say this is better than Maas's other works. I did find book one to be an enjoyable read, and one that I could get lost in whilst reading but it's not phenomenal (yet) but I'm also aware that the series doesn't get really good till book three so I will be sticking with the Throne of Glass series to find out if it is indeed worth the hype. (I really hope so as I have all the books!)I do agree with others (and I wish to clarify that I only read reviews after I have read a book because I don't want to be swayed one way or another) that Celaena Sardothien as an assassin is confusing as she's unafraid to show people what she's capable of. I would have thought, that an assassin shouldn't be so egotistical and extroverted in her mannerisms, even if it's stressed people think the infamous assassin is older than Celaena is. She also just seems mediocre in this book, I was waiting to see some kick-ass, fierce and determined young woman who can make a grown man cry because Maas does write phenomenal female characters (Bryce for one) but it wasn't there. Yes, she fights and she is clearly better than the men around her who are fighting to be the King's Champion but let's be honest? 95% of said men just think she's a girl who is lucky and she manipulates that for her advantage and I don't blame her doing that. It's all a little too predictable in that regard and to be honest, whilst yes, she is left with no option in taking part? It makes zero sense why anyone would want to make a renowned assassin become so well known. Everyone is going to recognise her going forward because she's going to be working for the King and not in the shadows...The world building is good, I think the characters need work in this book and I hope that they grow and become less one dimensional going forward. I enjoyed Throne of Glass, I really did but it just could have been more. There was so much potential that seemed to walk into the proverbial wall and promptly fade away and it infuriated me. But I have faith.... book two will give me hope for an improvement and less holes in the plot and predictability. 🤞

EPIIC!!
AHHH! I LOVED THIS BOOK!I can't believe it has taken me so long to read this series, but I have seen the error in my ways and have read it, and loved it. Celena is my new favourite character, I don't just love her, I admire for her strength, her humour and her ability to love even though she had been hurt before. I can't wait to see her character grow more in the series.I liked Dorian and Chaol, I found them funny and charming and looking forward to what they get up to next. But I have so many questions, what is with the mark on her forehead? How is she seeing Elena? What from her past is she hiding? What happened to her parents?Who betrayed her?So much to know, luckily I have the second one, ready to be read.If you are like me and where on the fence about this series, then you need to come off it and get it reading it, trust me you won't be disappointed.Happy reading :)
