My guess is lighter, but I have never tried the hazel.

Just received this prncil. It is completely dry, no liquid on brush. Is there some secret to getting liquid on the brush?

There is no liquid. This is a pencil that you turn up and the brush is just to brush eyebrows before or after or both. Depending on your preference.
