BaldwinReserve 9BR3530-001 Traditional Round Privacy Knob in Polished Brass

Doubt these are genuine Baldwin. If so, brand has declined greatly. Have bought two. On both of them, the latch has broken (in the closed, locked position, requiring great effort and/or a locksmith to open the door.)I am thoroughly disgusted that these total POS's were ever put forward for sale.

Solid construction, easy installation. The adjustable backset is useful for replacing knobs in a variety of doors, as in our house. These are well designed and we'll made - my only criticism is the strike plates are cheaply made and door latch covers are flimsy - both minor issues but detract from the overall finish and are a strange contrast to the heavy brass construction of the knobs and rosettes.Wish these were made in USA.

Don't know why the only other reviewer had such negative comments regarding this knob. No details were provided. I purchased 10 of these knobs in late 2012. Installed them all in early 2013. After nine months, I have not had any problems. Overall the knobs appear beautiful and well made.Only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because of installation. Having renovated 5 houses in my lifetime, I was able to install these with no problem other than the recutting of the recess for the strike plate in the door frame for several doors. Someone with reasonably good DIY skills could do installation as well. However as with any door refit when one is installing new style, rather than simply replacing old, knobs, strike plates, and hinges, etc. one needs to ensure hinges, plates, and knob are each properly installed and aligned. In addition, this particular privacy knob, and it's counterpart passage knob, PS.ROU.TRR.003.6L.DS, come with an adjustable latch backset--2&3/8-in or 2&3/4-in. Install the knob with the wrong backset and you can easily ruin the latch mechanism. Given I needed one backset for selected doors, and the other backset for other doors, I purchased the knob with this adjustible feature. If you know the backset dimension you need, you can puchase a similar Baldwin knob, but with a fixed latch backset. It does costs more per knob, but the nonadjustible latch appears to be stronger than the adjustable latch.Also see another reviewer's comments regarding just the passage knob ... I just ordered one of these for the laundry room door.

We purchased a house full of very expensive Baldwin Estate Knobs. It's been a nightmare for the past year-- Baldwin sent out tech to try to get the knobs to turn without using pliers, and he couldn't make them work. We have had to pay for our own knob installers and they say these are the most finicky, badly engineered knobs they have ever seen. AVOID.
