what is the average life a batt?

It depends on the length and thickness of the grass/weeds you are trimming. We have an average sized yard and I can get the entire yard/fence line/outer fence line trimmed in one battery charge. I am pleased with this small trimmer as it has a lot more power than I expected.

Yes. I've used it for a month now, and haven't had issues with the feed.

Will the battery stay charged when not in use?

Yes it should but eventually all batteries will lose power over time so long as is not a couple years it should be fine to hold the charge
