Anything above 400 degrees is going to create dangerous fumes from the non-stick chemical, even if it's ptfe - so how hot does this unit get?

The grill allows you to select your desired temperature and time.

Does it require oil to cook properly or can foods be cooked oil free?

I returned mine as I found one on HSN of WolfGang Puck that had better features like temp. Control and easier way to clean it. I would suggest you look on YouTube and watch his clip.

Can you put a pot or pan on it? Like a hot plate cook or boil water?

Nope. Why would you put a container on a nonstick plate anyway? You’ll always scratch the garbage out of nonstick when you use metal on it. NEVER use anything metal on any kind of nonstick! Also, the instructions say you can’t.

I searched over the whole machine and found no information at all telling of country of origin. One might think they are ashamed to tell us. But the machine works great.
