Couldn’t put this book down!

This sounds like a depressing read during coronavirus lockdown - surely not what I should be reading? But I found it was unputdownable. The writing style is very down to earth, almost deceptively simple, yet at the same time it grabs you and makes you read more. The situation it describes is somehow fascinating and believable without being depressing.

Masterpiece of SF. Not the book you expect. More hope than emptiness. If McCarthy’s The Road made you sad. Read this. People can be good.

Brilliant and timely. Sci-fi may not be for every one, but Octavia Butler is deeper than that. Every one should read her books.
