Update: Slight design flaw; Great litter box, works just as advertised - UPDATED
INITIAL REVIEW: Received this litter box earlier this week, and have put it in place. Cat took to the box with no problems, and has been using it "regularly" all week. First attempt to perform a "self-cleaning" was a little tentative, however, upon following the instructions (and closely observing how the self-cleaning function actually works), we were able to evacuate all waste into the drawer, for easy disposal. You have to turn it VERY slowly, and watch the "stuff" inside to make certain it is trapped by the screen, and roll it over until all of the "stuff" rolls away into the area where it will be deposited into the drawer - but don't roll it too far, or else the "stuff" will remix with the litter, and defeat the purpose. I believe it is key, also, that you use fine grain cat litter, such as Arm & Hammer SLIDE, as the larger-grain litter might gum-up the works and not pour as easily past the screen. Also, let the "turds' dry out a little before trying to clean the box, as fresh turds will stick to the screen and create a mess.Worked exactly as advertised, and we never had to go near any of the nasty bits. Have ordered a litter genie, also, to deposit the waste, so we won't be hauling little bags to the garbage every day. Great product, highly recommended. Best litter box we've ever had.FIRST UPDATE: Have been using this box for a couple of weeks, and it has worked just fine. However, we discovered a bit of a design flaw, in that the screen may pop out, due to the thin, plastic construction of the box, and the litter will by-pass the screen and not filter anything. In addition, when this happens, the litter goes everywhere, and ends up on top of the screen area, requiring removal of the lid and removal of the litter and waste which has accumulated there. I had read a review from someone who recommended hot-gluing the screen shut, so I used Gorilla tape to keep the screen in place. Hopefully, that will correct the problem. Still a very good litter box, however, they should fix this problem, increase the rigidity of the plastic they use, install better-sealing locks, and better-secure the screen.SECOND UPDATE: We've been using this litter box for over a month now, and it has performed quite well. However, we've found some problems due to a design flaw, which results in complete blow out of the box, which has occurred twice, so far. The box filters the litter by pouring it over a screen, and into a side chamber, which is then poured back into the box after filtering out the "stuff". It works most of the time, however, the screen and side chamber become dislodged due to an insecure method of sealing the screen when installed. I read comments from some people who resorted to hot gluing the screen in place, and when it happened to me, I used Gorilla tape to seal the screen. However, the tape failed, as did the screen and the litter went all over the place. I have now glued down the screen, and further secured the side chamber with tape, and I will just have to see if that keeps the screen and side chamber in place.Still a great litter box - best one we've ever had, but be warned that it requires a little extra work upon initial assembly to keep it functioning properly.

Still Super Thrilled
I am really pleased with this litter box. It works exactly like the product video I watched on YouTube. I was concerned that any fresh wet clumps might not come loose, but once I roll it over on it’s top, a couple taps on the bottom loosened up anything stuck on. Initially when I rolled it back I wasn’t rolling it far enough the other way and all the litter wasn’t redistributing, but we’re good to go now. The biggest difficulty is dislodging The King from his new perch on cleaning days.I’ve only had it about a month. Stay tuned for a second review maybe in 6 months. I seem to be going through litter faster, and I’m about to open it up and see if there’s anything going on in there I should know about. Also, a friend had one and said everything loosened up after a few months and litter would come out the seams. I believe this is the newer, improved model. Cross your fingers... and check back later. By the way, I declined to rate the “Scent” category. That’s on Buster. Although it is right by my desk so he can look out the patio door, and I don’t have to vacate when he does his business.10/16/20 - Still ThrilledAfter reading some of the negative reviews, I've been procrastinating because I was dreading taking the top off of this thing to unveil the mystery inside. But... no horrors lurking under the cover. It was actually easier to clean than a regular litter box. Usually when replacing litter, wet clumps would cling to the standard litter pans necessitating a good scrubbing outside with the hose and a brush. No problem here. I'm somewhat attentive to when Buster does his business, so I don't roll it when there is anything "fresh" in there. There was no residue whatsoever, not on the bottom or the lid, or stuck on the grate. Yes... the plastic grate is a little flimsy. I flipped it up and there were some tiny nuggets that had slipped through the slits and not come back out when rolled. But they were coated in litter and non-odorous, and the grate kept them off Mr. B's feet during his private time. I just picked them up in a bag and tossed it. Still WAY BETTER than the previous cleaning routine. I'm just not getting what people are complaining about. Maybe I lucked out and got a cat with fastidious bathroom habits. Thankfully we're still good to go. I saw a review where excessive dust was mentioned, and that had also been a concern of mine. We use Scoop Away Multi-Cat with odor control and no dust... and I roll slowly. We have no dust problem... and it sits fairly close to my desk, so I would notice. Obviously some of us are lucky enough to have those furry friends who are more like a bull in china shop. If you have one of those, yeah... I could see them banging against the plastic grate and eventually destroying it. And I still harbor concerns that litter may start to leak out on the drawer side... but I have a plan should that occur.

A Decent Easily Cleaned Product
Large VersionAs a self cleaning litter box that does not need liners or anything else, it is perfect. It is relatively easy to use and compared to previous litter trays where I have had to use liners and scoop, it is much better and means that I clean more often each day as it is such a simple job. Please Note-- the tray only takes CLUMPING LITTEROther reviewers have gone through how to use the tray and made videos if you need the help but just to recap. The tray consists of four pieces. The top, bottom, the draw and what I call the separator.Looking at the litter tray from the the front, the bottom tray will have the separator on the right. The separator bends into a V/Corner shape. The side with holes goes towards the bottom of the litter tray and slots into two sets of plastic notches on the tray. The upper part of the corner bends over and slots onto the sides of the bottom tray providing a supporting platform for the draw.Once this is in place, the top of the tray can be attached. The attachment is done by slide locks and reasonably simple. The draw is then put through the hole on the right and is supported by the separator.Do the process again but with litter. To CleanFrom the front, lift up the left side of the litter tray slowly, and Slowly turn the litter tray to the right so that the clean litter falls towards and into the separator. This should leave the cat's mess and the litter clumps in the main part of the litter tray or pressing against the separator. Once the clean litter has separated, continue turning the litter tray until the dirt falls to the top right of the tray above the draw or the tray is upside down. Bang on the top of the upside down tray to get hardened clumps that are sticking to fall off.Carefully, make sure all the rubbish goes into the draw and then return the litter tray to its original position which will help the rubbish fall into the draw. You can now remove the draw and empty out the rubbish.Depending on how much litter is in the draw, pull it out carefully and make sure you support it, if it is too heavy and not supported by you when you pull it out, the litter could fall out at the unsupported end of the draw.Once the draw is cleaned and back into the tray, tilt the tray from the right side turning to the left so that the clean litter in the separated section falls back into the main tray. Once that section is empty, return the tray so that it is back flat on the floor, and wait until you have to do the procedure again. The amount of litter in the tray affects whether you can turn it all the way over without causing the separator to loosen because of the weight of clean litter in its section. To be honest, I took longer to type this than it takes to actually do.Once a month or more often depending on you, remove all litter, keeping the cleaner litter from the rubbish, and empty the whole tray and thoroughly clean. The notches on the bottom tray may need a bit of an extra go over as litter tends to stick around them.Potential Problems 1. I am not sure it would be suitable for people who have difficulties moving bulky items. 2. It is not suitable for your accommodation unless you have a large space for it, that you won't need as otherwise it gets in the way since it is more square in shape than the long rectangular hooded litter trays . This means the width of the tray is not narrow, and where you might fit the sleeker litter boxes, this one will not fit.Design Problems 1. There is no handle to enable easy moving of the whole tray. 2. There is no door/flap to the litter box which means the immediate after odour can be overwhelming. Even a removable door so that the cleaning method is not harmed would help. 3. The drawer could benefit from a clip that keeps it tight to the body of the litter box as it does seem to pop out by a cm or two so you have to keep an eye on it. This has not caused any major problem for me but it is an improvement possibility. 4.Better colour design, I am very tempted to buy some suitable spray paint and do the outside of it. It is just depressing to look at especially as it is such a big item. For all that, this is one of my favourite litter trays if you can have those, and I recommend buying.

Cuts box cleaning time in half
Since we needed a new box and this one cost only slightly more than a typical litter box, I decided to give it a try and so far I'm pleased with it. It's not really "self cleaning" since it takes a couple minutes and you do have to fiddle with it a bit to remove the cat waste, but it decreases the amount of close interaction you have to have with the stuff. Basically, you tip the box slowly to one side so the poo and pee clumps end up on a sifting tray to the side while the litter falls in under the tray, then you tip the box onto the roof so the clumps fall into the drawer, then tip the box back over to the other side to get the litter to come back out where it's supposed to be. I've found I have to shake the box quite a bit to get the litter back out after rolling the cat waste into the drawer, which is a little annoying, but it usually isn't a major problem to get it back out. The drawer is then easily emptied without having to get your hands too close to anything yucky.I would guess this cuts the litter box cleaning time in half each day compared to having to sift through with a scoop like the typical litter box requires. But it's probably really important that you fill the litter level high enough and that you use a high quality clumping cat litter. The litter quality may make or break the usefulness of this box. If you use a litter where the urine clumps fall apart the instant they're manipulated with a litter scoop, then you'll probably just end up with a mess when you try to use this box. But with a premium quality fine grained litter where the urine clumps stay stuck together, then it works just fine to roll them out with this box. The consistency of your cat's feces may also play a role. I would imagine that a loose stool could get really messy and smear the top of the box if you tried to roll it into the drawer, but if your cat usually has solid stools and buries them well in the litter, I doubt it would be a problem.

Amended review after 5 years use - still good, but not perfect
5 years on:After using this for 5 years now, with 2 older aged cats, I’ve amended my review from 5 to 4 stars for 2 reasons.1. The partition screen that is critical to the separation of the poo & wee soaked litter for removal is splitting on the hinge. This has been steadily getting worse, as it’s not possible to remove it for cleaning without giving it a good tug (which makes the split worse).2. The drawer where the dirty litter is collected doesn’t fit terribly well, so when you tip the tray upside down, you do get clean litter leaking out of the gap. Even trying to hold the drawer in place whilst tipping doesn’t work.In my original review I’d also mentioned a concern about the clips that hold the lid on. I can report they have lasted very well and not one has broken, which is good!I do still think it’s a good litter tray, and 5 years isn’t a bad lifetime. Not sure I’d be willing to pay the price for another one though, as my cats are already 15...———————————Original review:Even after reading the reviews, I was still somewhat skeptical that this could be as great as everyone says. A cat litter tray that's easy to clean out feels a bit like the holy grail for cat owners! I for one have never been a big fan of the manual effort involved in the standard versions, but didn't fancy shelling out for some kind of automated version that would probably break down after a week or so.So we've had this rolling version for a little over a week now, and the whole family has been impressed by how quick and easy this is to clean out. The first time I tried it (boy I had to be patient waiting for the cats to actually go use it!), I could not get over how quick it was to do - 30 seconds tops, and the job was done! No mess, no fuss. Simples :) Even the kids want to have a go!I do sometimes have to give it a few taps on the bottom to loosen the clumps which can get stuck to the bottom/side of the tray. But to be honest, it doesn't take much to loosen them off. We bought Bob Martin Antibacterial Ultra Clumping litter to go with this, which I will review separately.Another (unexpected but much appreciated) benefit is that the tray is very deep, meaning the join between tray and lid is much higher than most lidded trays. We've had problems with this previously, as one of our cats likes to wee right against the back wall, and with previous trays this has ended up leaking through the join and getting on the floor. So far, we don't seem to have had that problem with this one.The only slight downside to this product is the clips which fasten the lid to the tray. They don't feel very secure or sturdy, unlike the rest of the tray which is a good solid plastic. However, although they don't feel that sturdy, so far they have done the job so to be honest it's only a little niggle that doesn't impact on performance. All in all, this is a GREAT product, and I would heartily recommend it to any cat owner!

Very good!
I wanted a litter box that stopped the cats spreading the litter everywhere, (I have 2 cats). I did a google search and came across this self cleaning type, amongst others. After reading the reviews, I decided to go for this one. (The electric ones didnt appeal) At around £30, it was expensive than the usual rectangle trays you get at the pet shop, but I figured hopefully in the long run it would be better by the reviews I read. It is quite large, and the cats step into it to do their thing. I had their normal litter tray beside it for a while, then took it away, when they got used to it. I use extra clumping litter from P at H, which some ppl do not like according to their reviews, but all I can say is it works for me! ( clumping litter is what the instructions recommend) . I am finding that litter lasts longer, because the waste gets clumped together which, when you roll the box these parts fall into the pull out part. I am going through less litter so that's money saved in the long run compared to before. Also, there is less smell!I remove their waste every couple of days, there is a divider in the box which when turned, the waste goes in the pull out section and the dry stuff separates, to be used again. Usually, I do a good clean out every 2 weeks ish, ( topping up in the meantime)I gave it 4 stars as you do have to bang the bottom for the waste ( wee possibly) to come unstuck from the bottom of the box, if there was more of a 'non stick' element to this, that would be great :) All in all I would recommmend.
