Cycling Europe: Great Day Rides (European Cycle Touring)

Great Bike Book!
I have done some longer bike rides in Europe and I was looking for a book that would help me find some shorter, but still interesting, bike rides near certain cities and regions where my family and I hope to visit (post pandemic of course!). This book certainly fits that bill. I find the information in the book well organized, by specific city and region, and including helpful hints on the logistics of bike day rides such as various biking, ferry and train route combinations. The book further includes helpful information on various bike rental possibilities in each town, as well as suggests numerous and interesting sounding places to stay and eat. In that way it strikes me more as a combination of a bike route book as well as a bit of a general tourist guide. I especially like that this book also includes numerous suggestions for non-bike rider and kid activities such as visits to numerous museums, castles, gardens and even playgrounds. I am looking forward to using this book to help include day bike rides as part of our next trip to Europe.

Day Rides in Europe – Let’s Go!
A very pleasant book to read, especially during COVID quarantine. This is definitely my go-to guide for planning rides in Europe, especially day rides. Unlike other guides, this was easy to read and understand, entertaining and uplifting, as I dream about getting back to normal cycling and vacationing. Reading it makes me want to go as soon as possible. The photos and diagrams are very clear and expressive in this paperback b&w edition; I heard there will be a color edition as well. I will use this as my pre-trip guide in planning cycling trips to Europe, using the excellent suggestions for lodging and routes – especially the route options; I’ll be able to pre-program my Garmin GPS before the trip. And the book has suggestions for the non-cycling members of the traveling party, including e-bikes and sightseeing.

This book condenses complex information to the essentials + points you to the best landmarks !
This is a stellar book for those who want to cycle Europe - and for those who want to continue to do so.Michael Lyon understands how to condense complex information to the essentials and point you to the best landmarks. My family spends a lot of time travelling and biking on the Rhine, Mosel and Ahr rivers; and I can testify that this book gives you the very best advice for these regions. Much looking forward to other European regions that my family - bike riders with very diverse levels of fitness - has yet to explore!

So many wonderful options to consider...
The author truly brought a diverse number of trips to consider all in one edition. None of these are too aggressive for the average rider yet truly makes the trips worthwhile. I enjoyed all the call outs of natural and historical sites as well as the reasonable recommendations for hotels. I know how much work it is to do this degree of documentation and research so this is truly a valuable reference. I have shared this book with others who are home now doing planning for future trips when we can all get out again. Nice Job...

Very well-written, how-to guide
Very well organized and easy to follow and succinct, to the point. I like how it's broken up into various trips and not just a general "how to guide" with excessive narrative, though it has basic parameters too, which should be very useful. It's short enough to capture an attention span while on a trip or on the go, which many will find valuable. I haven't done a bike trip in Europe yet, but think time permitting, this book will help make it a much easier process!

Inspiring new approach to discovering Europe by bike
We purchased Mike's first book "Cycling Along Europe's Rivers" 7 years ago. It was written in a down-to-earth "anyone can do it" style. It inspired us to do what until then we'd only dreamed about. Since that time we've spent over a year (spread across 7 years) cycling Europe on our own and having some of the best adventures of our lives. This new book presents a totally different way of discovering Europe by bicycle. In this approach Mike describes establishing a base in one of 30 European cities and cycling out in multiple directions. Like the first book, it presents the possibilities in a way that lets you know that anyone can and should hop on their bike and discover the best of Europe on their own. The book presents many cities that we have yet to experience by bike in the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary as well as new insights on many familiar cities we know well from our long-distance touring. This book will open up opportunities for many who would not otherwise be planning cycle-touring in Europe. It comes out at the perfect time while many of us are ready to start planning future adventures.

Welcome addition to European rides portfolio
As an avid cyclist and based in Europe, I am always on the lookout for any source that can provide suggestions for nice rides anywhere in Europe. This book is a particularly welcome addition as it has a slightly different focus: it suggests easily executable routes around major European cities, in all of which you can easily rent bikes. In practice this means that I am now much more likely to go out on a ride even when one one of my frequent business trips (at last in non-lockdown times) to European cities, when previously I may have been too lazy to do the necessary local research to do that. Cycling Europe makes it so easy that I now no longer have this excuse!
