Q: How do you get it to turn on

You push the round button on the bottom. If it doesn’t turn on it means the battery is dead. Just return it and get another one. That’s what I had to do.

Q: Is there a way for the temp reading to light up so I can see it in my baby’s dark room?

There is not. There is no back-light to the display.

Q: Does this product contain any pvc, phthalates, bpa?

No, it does not. This product is BPA free and lab tests passes all USA ASTM certifications.

Q: What type of battery is needed? My thermometer is now taking a long time to activate so I thought that may be the problem.

A coin cell battery like the one for your watch, and most thermometers.

It doesn’t last. It stopped working after 5-6 weeks

Looks like great product. My son loved it floating in the bath but after about 4 weeks I was unable to turn it on. It was working intermittently when left in floating for sometime but it soon stopped working. I expected battery to last at least 3 months but it stopped working after about 5-6 weeks. Not value for money at all!!

Great if it actually works

Worked great for 3 baths and then failed to turn on. Tried new batteries...nothing. Left it overnight in a bowl of rice in case water had somehow gotten in a product designed to be in water (!!). Alas, no luck. So now it is nothing more than a crocodile-themed paperweight. AVOID

Worked great for 2 months, sporadically for a couple of months and then wouldn't work. Changing battery made no difference
