Menopause Power

Bloody brilliant!
I’ve read Maisie’s first book and it was MIND BLOWING! I’ve just turned 40, and I’ve often wondered, despite a gynaecologist’s flow charted opinion, that I’m entering perimenopause. This book is so very helpful, informative and quite frankly I love her style of writing! Yes, there is an occasional profanity, and yes she does use language that is not always scientific, but that does not detract from the content, nor does it make me feel like I am 5! Far from it.I have yet to read to the end, but I am in no doubt that this book will have such a positive effect on my life. Maisie in my eyes is a bloody brilliant woman, who has enabled those of us who menstruate to gain knowledge about ourselves that quite frankly has been in the shadows! So, if you want to learn about yourself and your fellow menstruators then this is the book for you. Bloody brilliant!

Life changing
I am a huge fan of Maisie's work and Perimenopause Power is another pure gem. I bought this for my mum as she has recently gone through perimenopause with very little support or resources to help her navigate this time. As she is Portuguese and her English isn't great me and my dad translated the book for her and read it together, which has been the most amazing experience. Besides explaining what is going on in the body and the hormonal shifts at this stage, the book is also filled with wonderful tools on how to navigate it all. Reading this book has been life changing not only for my mum but particularly for my dad who really "gets it" now. Just incredible!

Great knowledge but off putting political bits.
I find her knowledge helpful. I don't like the political stuff... sometimes it is a bit stressful to read that... I just want more of her amazing knowledge about our bodies really. Reassuring, but the stressful angry political stuff added here and there is putting me off reading the book from cover to cover. My body currently makes enough negative emotions as it is! 😂

Very useful confirming what I thought I knew and clarifying some confusing areas
I had been waiting for this book having read/dipped in and out of Period Power but feeling that I had left it a bit late to fully embrace. Perimenopause Power looks at many angles of this stage in life and I found the diversity of topics covered really useful. As with anything, some areas jumped out and completely described me and others I didn't personally relate to but were useful in broadening my understanding for others or what might happen. A useful reference book to have, one to keep

Either obvious, ill informed or irrelevant.
This book has really big text with lots of space around it. And what it does say is disappointingly fluffy, subjective and highly unscientific. My heart sank when I read the words (from a woman who is too young to be writing this) “Yes believe it or not some women in their 50s still have sex!” - whaaat? Is that really a revelation? It revealed an utter lack of knowledge or awareness of older women. Of course they are having sex, lots of them, and older. And it talked as if sexual libido or “fluid mechanics” all go on the wane past 40. Again: what? This is scare mongering. For many, sex goes on getting better. I wanted some good, science based tips and perhaps some intellectual, philosophical feminist thought. I got neither. Will be trying another book and leaving this one at a bus stop for someone who might like it.
