Es geht dabei vor allem auf die Etappen von Madonnas Karriere und ihre vielen Arten des künstlerischen Selbstausdrucks ein, stellt Privates eher in den Hintergrund und zeigt ihr künstlerisches Spektrum auf. Der Text ist liebevoll geschrieben, das Buch wirkt wertig und intensiv recherchiert und lektoriert. Eine klare Empfehlung für alle Madonnafans!

What strikes you most about this book are the fantastic selection of photos that have been chosen to illustrate Madonna's story. As a fan since the beginning, I was impressed to see many shots I had not previously seen from her childhood until recent times. There's a perfect blend of studio portraits, press photos and publicity stills, all demonstrating Madonna's uniqueness as her personality comes to life within the pages.The book reads like a photo album record of a life played out in front of the camera and the world's media. Madonna metamorphosis's from toddler, to school girl with gift for performance, the young adult with her drive to become a successful performer and the struggles she endured while she pursued her dreams, and those dreams becoming a reality as her fame and success eclipsed every other female performer (and possibly male too), to the living icon she has become today.Madonna's style has changed just about every year she has been in the limelight and this book documents these changes perfectly with photographic evidence and a text that carries you effortlessly from one phase to the next, offering an insight on what was happening in her life at that precise time and the effect that it would have on her work and the direction she would go in next. As well as her career we see Madonna's charity work and her humanitarian qualities all presented in an informative and positive way, making this book one of the most enjoyable tributes to her and is sure to please her legions of fans.

While this is not a full-scale biography, Morgan is a thoughtful writer, providing enough detail to satisfy even the die-hard fans. The book ends around mid-2014, but although the unfolding Rebel Heart era isn't yet featured, it's easy to imagine this wonderful book being updated in a few years.
