When it comes to the Monkees, this is a often celebrated, but seldom understood, group of talented performers both on stage and in music. What started out as a simple concept for a show quickly evolved into the best example of art imitating life... or was it life imitating art? At any rate, the masses demanded the Monkees go on tour and BE the band they purported to be on television. This talented group of performers who sang on those early hit songs answered the bell and became that band the fans wanted and have gone on to celebrate 50 years performing as that band when the fans came calling. It's really a better story than the traditional garage band origin.Unfortunately they were overlooked during the golden years of action figures when Mego ruled the shelves of toy stores around the country (and world under other names). But just like the underdog Monkees, Figures Toy Company has stood up against the odds and answered the call on the group's 50th anniversary and delivered both 8 and 12 inch figures in various vintages. The 12 inch come in one format which celebrates their iconic cranberry colored shirts and grey pants. The 8 inch figures come in those outfits as well as the Monkey men costumes plus iconic suit and tie wardrobe best remembered in the classic shot of them posing in their actor seats. Today we review the 8 inch scale Monkey Men series.As with the 12 inch figures, these 8 inch figures provide the same sculpted heads in their respective scale. Personally I feel Mike and Micky are the best. Davy is good but the paint apps are a bit thin on his eye brows. Peter is okay but the likeness is more like Ron in Harry Potter than Peter. The Monkey Men outfits are beautifully tailored and fits the figures very nicely given the detail involved. Each outfit has a a heat stamped emblem nicely affixed along with black shorts and a belt that oddly snaps into the shorts to give the figures a nice look. And yes, Mike does come with his iconic green cap, sometimes not pictured in promotional shots. The boots are molded rubber and fit firmly on each figure. There are no standing issues here. The capes are gorgeous and can be positioned in a number of ways to convey a variety of poses. The body is the standard 8 inch variety and exhibits no issues in this scale (including tightness). Fully articulated in the wrist, elbows, shoulders, waist, knees, and ankles. Heads turns nicely with no limitations. There are no musical instruments included.Also comes with the standard 8 inch backer card with beautiful artwork on the front and a overview of the entire 8 inch line on the back as well as a nice picture of the band displayed in their iconic Monkey men outfits. Comes with a standard clam shell case that can properly hold and display the figure when not in use. Destined to be a huge collectible.
