I'll have to admit I was wrong about this
I'll start off my saying I need to eat some crow about this product, I ordered it for my mom she had been looking for one for quite some time ( I had never heard of one before) and will say I was a little puzzled at the thought of my butter sitting in water I mean wet butter really? But The butter does not get wet you lift the "bell" out of the water flip it right side up and spread the butter as easy can be, no more ripping your bread while trying to spread cold butter on your toast. This gadget also prevents your butter from ever molding or going sour from being left in the cupboard. Made from a ceramic material it is great quality! If you have been considering it I say go for it.......I am going to order one for myself now........I have no problem admitting I was wrong about this! A great addition to any kitchen!

This is a brilliant product, keeps butter spreadable.
This is a brilliant product, keeps butter spreadable. Holds a small amount of butter so less chance it will go rancid before being used up. Make sure bowl is completely dry before pressing butter into it otherwise it comes loose and falls into the water.

Awesome for Canadians
Our Canadian butter sticks are a lot… girthier… than American ones, making it hard to find a butter storage device for them. Because of it we were pretty much a margarine family because of how annoying it is to spread cold butter. Saw one of these at a friends house and bought one instantly. Have had it for over a year and still use it all the time. Bought one for my parents. My wife’s parents visited from Slovakia and they loved it and bought 5 to bring home to give to friends. You really don’t need to change the water THAT often as everyone complains about. The only issue I could see is if you have a family of 12 and make 3 loafs of toast in the morning, the capacity of this bell might not be ideal for you. I would recommend a Home Depot pail for those larger families who consume a few sticks in a daily basis.

Works like a charm
This works really well but its effectiveness depends somewhat on the room temperature as well. They suggest changing the water every three days, max. We change it every two days. If it's really warm in the room, the butter will spread very nicely but freshness will be affected - suggest you up the water temperature by melting a very small ice cube in the water to make it colder. In a cool room, the butter will be firmer and not quite as easily spread. But the quality of materials and manufacture of the Butter Bell Crock is really fine.
