Dark City: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture

All too often, the score to a movie is uninspired and lame. The themes are trite and predictable, and the music just lies there limply. Bleh. But if you disdain wimpy background pastorals and like your instrumentals to be bold, unashamed, and thundering, this is the soundtrack for you.Trevor Jones has succeeded wildly in creating a score that is, by turns, ominous and mysterious, threatening, and energetic, one that is packed with action and movement. The final piece, "You Have The Power", reprises the recurring themes and brings them all together for a glorious finish. It's really, really good. As a side note, these instrumental numbers make excellent accompaniment for chase or battle scenes for Dungeons & Dragons players and other RPGers.The musical numbers by other artists in the first half of the soundtrack are also quite good. Anita Kelsey provides a sultry version of the old standard "Sway" (which was lip-synched in the movie by Jennifer Connelly). Hughes Hall also bangs out a great and driving instrumental piece that neatly fits the approach of Trevor Jones. (Hall has a small section on MP3.com, but sadly, his tunes there are disposable New Age fluff.)If you're in the mood to pick up a soundtrack for mood music for these dark and turbulent nights, this should be your choice. Heck, I bought it about four years before I even saw the movie, and I loved it! Give it a try.

Absolutely one of my favorite soundtracks. Highlight tracks must listen to are: 5 (used in a lot of trailers), 9, 12, and 14 (massively epic track!)Favorite track: 5 or 14.P.S. if you like this soundtrack, check out The Crow Original Score by Graeme Revelle.

One of my top three favorite movies. It was great to not just get what was in the film but also the music inspired by it. Also nice to have the Anita Kelsey versions of 'Sway' and "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes' that was removed from the directors cut of the film.

A fantastic film with music that is so perfectly "tuned" into the structure of the story it makes it a masterpiece. I don't know why this was not more successful in the box office and is deemed merely a cult film, it should have been a multi-Oscar winner (in my opinion anyway!!!). My Favourite Film! .... Well, also Zulu and the Italian Job and Shawshank Redemption.........oh and Last of the Mohicans and Run Lola Run (music again) .... and the the Bourne films .... and.... Godfather .... damn!

Awesome score/Soundtrack for the late 90’s SIFI cult classic

Diese Musik passt nicht nur hervorragend zu dem düsteren Science-Fiction-Thriller, sondern eignet sich auch wunderbar für den CD-Spieler. Das oft wiederkehrende Hauptthema des Scores setzt sich in den Köpfen fest und lässt einen nicht mehr los. Einziges Problem dabei: es fehlt leider etwas an Abwechslung. Doch das tut dem guten Gesamteindruck nicht schaden, da das tolle Thema in immer wieder abgewandelten Formen auftritt. Für Fans von älteren Filmmusiken ist die CD sowieso zu empfehlen, da man sehr darauf achtete, die Stimmung älterer Filme einzufangen. Zusammen mit flotten Lieder ist diese CD ein tolles Hörerlebnis, welchem es leider etwas an Abwechslung mangelt.
