Fosters learning in our 6 year old
Our kindergartner loves these. The planetary systems sparked a discussion one evening about circumference and diameter and led to measuring the diameter of apples, oranges, and a ring with a string and tape measure then recording the data in a notebook. We love how these place mats foster questions and discussions. Our 4 year old is even getting into them. Two suggestions: 1) include useful facts on the human anatomy place mat next to each system or sense in addition to naming the major organs, bones, etc., For the rock layers, perhaps the manufacturer could put on the back what materials/minerals are used to make, and 2) put a heavier duty laminate on them. While it hasn't happened yet, my fear is that they will start to peel apart or scratch fairly easily.
