With WigWag, you just choose what’s right for you. Created with interoperability, security and flexibility in mind, the Relay works with Zigbee, Z-Wave, 6loWPAN and WiFi smart devices from most popular brands. It runs on deviceJS, WigWag's award-winning, open-source software, which means your home stays smart with updates and additional device support. Plus, the hardware is expandable with additional protocol modules. Easy Setup & Smart Operation Filament bulbs fit into normal light sockets and work seamlessly with existing light switches. Plug the Relay into your network, download the app, then scan the unique barcode on each bulb to securely bind them to the Relay. For “smarter” traditional operation, users can configure Filaments to go to a preset color, then back to the last color with a regular switch. Make it Automatic What do you want to happen in your home automatically? Create moods and set up simple rules in the free mobile app or create more complex rules using the Rule Builder web application on your computer. WigWag makes it easy to customize your daily routines to save money, energy and time; so you can enjoy your home like never before. What would you make automatic? Strong Where WiFi is Weak Filament uses WigWag’s meshing technology. This expands your IoT network as you add more bulbs, so it will work even where WiFi struggles. The advanced routing and broadcast technology ensures ultra-fast response times, so all your bulbs work together, quickly. Our 6LoWPAN mesh reconnects rapidly, so normal light switch operations won’t break your light network! Protection for the Physical, Virtual and Future In today’s uncertain, yet connected world, physical security in the form of deadbolts, isn’t enough. You must also protect your home from virtual threats a world away or as close as a neighbor. With WigWag you have the power, to never return to a dark home again, to check if someone’s in your house or to give the impression you are there, even when you are away. Each Filament is secured individually, using AES 128-bit encryption. Encryption keys are updated every four hours. This is like having a locksmith come six times a day and change all of your door locks. Filament also includes support for WigWag’s Spatial Indoor Positioning System (SIPS) technology, that, when combined with WigWag Tag (Summer 2016 Release), will enable precision indoor positioning of people, pets and objects. WigWag’s Relay will soon support nested conditional rules, programming using deviceJS, and much more. In a world of smart devices and legacy hubs that turn dumb without the Internet, WigWag protects you from future obsolescence ensuring the Filament Lighting kits stays brilliant! About the Startup Describe your product in 3 words. Automatic Starts Here How did you come up with the idea for this product? We came up with the idea for WigWag while working in the pro-AV and IT worlds for many years. We saw customers painfully try to implement automation solutions only to get frustrated and rip them out months later because they failed to work. We realized customers experienced these problems because the existing automation solutions were hard to program with closed APIs that only a handful of ‘certified’ developers could use. The result was an incredibly poor experience for users. What makes your product special? WigWag is a completely open-source system for the Internet of Things (IoT) and automation systems. Unlike competitors that have created traditional APIs for developers, WigWag has created a JavaScript runtime for device control and manipulation: deviceJS. This means hundreds of thousands of developers who can develop for the Web can easily understand and program for the IoT! Our highly scalable technology, is designed to grow from one WigWag Relay, to thousands in a single home or deployment. DeviceJS is entirely open source and will be released in Summer 2016. What has been the best part of your startup experience? Our most exciting moment so far was the delivery of WigWag Relay to the market and running our crowd-sourced campaign. Through these efforts, we have connected with hundreds of customers who have taught us a great deal about the needs of both users and developers of modern automated devices in the home.

My joy was short lived
The lights came and when they were set to an indigo blue color my heart leaped. My joy was short lived, however, probably because this platform is insufficiently developed to be reliable and the technical support assigned to the customer is insufficient to useful. I had a 8-10 of these lights which worked well until the relay that they were attached to failed during an update and they remained bound to it. So these weighty relatively expensive smart bulbs are mere dumb dimly lit florescent lights with the distinctly horrifying pallor of a 1950s era insane asylum. Which must be turned on and off with a switch. On the wall. Which does not respond to an Amazon Echo command. Like a regular bulb. It's been three weeks without them functioning as smart home devices and it's becoming comical. Except for the part where I think I spent close to $200.00 on the things and rather than be driven past the edge of sanity, have simply been taken out and placed in a box. With a betamax player and several blackberries.

Cool Lights!!!!
I got my Filament Lighting Kit this last week and finally had a chance to set them up over the weekend. As a frequent Yelper (elite status 2 years running now), I thought I would start sharing more experiences on Amazon. I couldn’t resist the chance to be the first to review.. I’ve been wanting to try smart lighting for a while, and I figured if these didn’t work out, I could easily return them with Amazon. Plus I had a dinner party this weekend, where I wanted to use for the first time.I was a little apprehensive about the setup of the lights, after reading the reviews of other smart lights, but decided to give Filament a try after reading about how the company was created to make it easier for things like smart lights and switches to connect. The setup ended up being pretty easy, all in all, it took me about 20 minutes. The longest wait, was for the Relay box to connected to the Internet. It took a few long minutes to connect to the Internet, and for the light to turn blue, which means it is ready. The light was a little too bright for my taste at first, but it adjusted after a few minutes. Once the light finally turned Blue, I was able to connect my relay and move forward with the setup. Adding bulbs was the most fun, I just used the mobile app to scan a little bar code on each bulb. The mobile app, was a little confusing to me at first, but I am getting used to it, and really like controlling my lights from my iPhone. I think they have an Android app too?I used my new lights for the first time to set the mood for a dinner party I had on Saturday night. I changed the bulbs to a warm orange and loved the effect that it gave the room. And the guests loved it! I hope to do the same for my living room and bedroom. My favorite thing at this point, is that I can control the lights from my phone. So far, the lights have been easy to use and control, and I like the color and dimming options it gives me.

but I was happy I received something
Stay away from this company.I was a kickstarter backer several years ago. Stayed on the hopeful side that I would eventually get something from the company. I did get something - a bunch of bulbs, and the relay. Of course, this isn't what I had backed, nor what I had asked for, but I was happy I received something. The good. They actually worked when I first installed them! I've found in the home automation space, more often then not, the most basic of things (like working) isn't a guarantee. I was an early beta tester of the software, and I did see it slowly get better. Scanning of the QR code for the relay is an excellent idea. Scanning of the QR code for each lightbulb isn't a good idea. Why they wouldn't broadcast their unique code is a headscratcher since they use a proprietary connection that isn't compatible with Hue or Osram, or they other guys. Yes, they are compatible once they are connected to the relay, but you can't use any other relay - big downer because there is a very large community around Hue and others. The badThere was a big delay between changing something on my smartphone, and the bulb actually changing. Often, I would change multiple bulbs as a collection (mood), but only half would change, then another two or three, and there always seemed to be on or two bulbs that wouldn't get the message. I was early, this was a startup, I understood. These were not bulbs to put in a high traffic, or used space - I had them in a theater that doesn't get daily use, so I wasn't too worried about it. Then one day, it all just stopped working. Turns out the company did an over-the-air update without notifying it's customers, and bricked my relay. I emailed support, and they had me try a bunch of things to no avail. Just flashes purple. At this point, they've stopped responding to me and I never heard from them again. That was over four months ago, and I still have a flashing purple relay. At this point, I wouldn't invest any time or money into this as a solution.

At best, an unproven system from an unproven company
WigWag has about 1700 backers of their Kickstarter campaign that was completed THREE YEARS ago, and well over 1000 of them have yet to receive any product. Anyone who buys anything from WigWag is getting, at best, an unproven system.

Avoid this company
I'm one of the many kickstarter backers who paid good money for this years ago, and got nothing. At this point there is no point in getting these, as there are far better solutions available now. But it grates me that they can drop their backers without any remorse, and still try to sell the products whose development we funded.

Disappointments abound
These work, but I have a few grievances: the Lights are huge compared to other smart color bulbs, the app to control them is clunky and seems underdeveloped, and the hub device necessary needed to run them is buggy at best, and sometimes downright doesn't work. Also, don't leave it disconnected from the internet for more than a month or so, because automatic firmware updates break. The wigwag company doesn't seem devoted to their products or customers either (see their kickstarter boondoggle). You may be better served with philips hue or something more mature and backed by a better company.
