The Wonder Weeks: A Stress-Free Guide to Your Baby's Behavior

10 good pages.
This book has 10 good pages. If you read what the "leaps" forward are, you have read the book. The other 454 pages are just repetition of "hold your baby," "you know your baby better than anyone," "here's how to relieve your stress." None of those are what I am interested in.

The jury is still out but starting to be convinced...
We are not first time parents, this is our second child... Baby is 11+ weeks old I think we're on Leap 3. Initially, when I read the second leap I thought this book was nonsense, our baby was being suddenly fussy and such but didn't realize until I looked at the calendar and saw our baby was indeed 7 weeks old and the 8 week leap was nearing. Our baby was born right about her due date, and then we hit 11 weeks and suddenly the baby is not sleeping well, like REALLY waking every 40 to 45 minutes, and then today ate less but slept a lot and I realize, the 12 week leap is upon us. Our baby seems to have the difficult phase during the week leading up to the leap. During the time, she's wanted to be held extra much / has had trouble sleeping, etc. This gives me hope that this sudden bout of sleeplessness is indeed the third leap. Will update the review when we come to the other leaps... but so far, this has been helpful. The writing is a bit odd because it's translated from Dutch. I've lived overseas and am familiar with the way non-English languages translate into English (most people won't notice this). It's not bad at all, just sounds a bit stilted. And one star deducted for the filler fluff added (because really there's not enough info for a full length book). It is also a bit ambiguous. You know, "your child may have this leap before or after" well then it's not really predictable then is it? It's sort of like, "Your child may sleep poorly or they may eat less or they may eat more or they may sleep more" lol so it's sort of like it could be true for anyone, in a way (or am I just too sleep deprived to fully absorb it??) I expected more science or studies referenced to explain the behavior / brain changes with baby. The book seems pretty simplified and not very scientific or psychological so I considered that maybe the theories in the book were just "made up" but seeing that the leaps (so far) have accurately coincided with my baby's noticeable (and quickly passing) behavioral changes, I give it the benefit of the doubt... Also because, thinking back, our first baby slept GREAT until the time that would coincide with her 4th leap... which is known to be a big one. Perhaps it would have helped to have this book then. We shall see if this book holds true... will update in a few months!

The app is super helpful and this book is the app on steroids! Gives you so much more information
Love this book! We used the app prior to purchasing this book and I was so amazed at how their research could track my child’s brain development almost down to the day but definitely to the week! It was very helpful to read about what to expect and also to see the calendar where one can predict when she may be going through fussy phases and sunshine phases! The app is super helpful and this book is the app on steroids! So much useful information, in-depth! Perfect for a first time mom!

This book claims to be sciences based (which it is loosely) and it is written in anecdotal stories. I became frustrated after the book keeps saying: many parents do this, many parents do this. But who cares, what does the author claim parents should do based on studies they have read?If you want to read a book about what other parents did, this is your book.Download the free app- all of the content in the book is in the app without stories for you to relate to.

Very interesting and Helpful!
This book was very good. I really enjoyed reading it and learning about all the different leaps. I even put post it notes on the different leaps and labeled them to know right where to turn when my hopefully future child reaches them. It had such good material and I like that is wasn't so focused on your child has to do everything right at an exact time, mentioning that babies just like adults have preferences of what they want to learn first. I also liked how each chapter had different pages to fill in about your baby and the things they would be learning. The only 2 reasons I didn't give it 5 stars is because the "fussy phase" pages could get very repetitive and boring after awhile. On the 9th or 10th leap they finally skipped over it, it probably should have been done in leap three. Also the book didn't give very much practical advice on how to cope with those fussy phases, but I don't think it was meant to. I think they meant more to just tell you why the fussy phases are happening to help you know we will get through it, it will end, but not focusing much on how to actually help the fussy child. It did go into a lot of ideas on how to help the parents during fussy phases, giving yourself little special things or times for you, so you don't go crazy lol. I guess there isn't much more you can do than that, lol, but anyway it was a great book, highly recommend!
